After having some not so nice experience in Heraklion we tried Maxim, based on the reviews here. We were not disappointed. As appetizer we had mussels saganaki, a huge plate with mussels and vegetables covered with melted cheese. Main course was a traditional dish made of lamb, delicious as well. 2 persons shared 1 portion of each since we wanted to try more than one plate, and it was actually too much! Portions are big. Even if we were full, the server brought us fruits and raki on the house, very good option for desert.

Have been going to crete for 8 years now, always at the centre of our stay is classico cafe the owners are brilliant, the food and drinks are excellent and the cafe itself is very welcoming, its smack bang in the middle of the beach with outstanding views. Love it

We went two times to Symposium one time we eat greek and the other time pizzas. Both experiences were great. The food is nice and the service is very friendly as wel. Definitly worth a visit!

This is a traditional roadside Taverna which can cater for large parties. It is apparently a venue used by the locals to celebrate their birthdays, christenings, etc. and was decorated with pink ribbons and streamers when we went for just such a recent event. The food is very good traditional Greek and there is a covered verandah at the front with great elevated views over the countryside and sea, with windows to let in any breeze, so it's one to visit for lunch when you are exploring the area, or in the evening if you fancy somewhere away from the beach. It takes 15-20 minutes to walk up to it and it's worth it for the warm welcome from George and his son when you get there. And remember it's down hill all the way back! We were there this year for lunch and had a variety of starters shared between us - decent portions - including Giant Beans, fried small fish (anchovies and sardines), Meatballs, and Zuccini and Cheese Balls all of which were very tasty. Our 'come again' was a mini Irish Coffee. Yummy!
