We are a cozy and intimate hostel at the base of the bare mountain region. The wilderness and its pristine mountains starts directly in our backyard. You can live an active outdoor life and at the same time enjoy served food from our restaurant (during peak season), sauna bath, have jolly good time in the pub or play a game of tabletennis in our activityroom. If you prefer you can of course choose to prepare your own food using our guest kitchens. Great tour and hiking trails are right outside the door and during the winter we have up to 60 km cross country skiingtracks. The south part of the Kings trail starts here towards Blahammaren, Sylarna and Helags mountain stations. For the alpine enthusiasts many slopes are nearby; Storlien Alpin 4 km, Meraker in Norway 25 km, Are and Duved 50 km. The hostel is located in one of Sweden's most accessible mountain areas. It is easy to get here by bus, train and car. Trondheim International Airport is just 70 km away. In addition to skiing and hiking, we have lots of activities to offer in the surrounding area: Snowmobile safaris, dogsledding, Icelandic horse riding, adventure park "Rypetoppen", berry and mushroom picking, bird watching, rafting, canoeing, kiting and much more.
We (a couple) stayed at "STF Storliens" (which, most importantly, is not in Storlien at all, but in Storvallen) for five nights. We stayed here to go cross country skiing. This was one of ten hotels and hostels we stayed at on a three week trip in Scandinavia, and it's the only one that was not good. This place is actually a bit of a tragedy. It could be nice, it could be a friendly little refuge with cute rooms and a warm atmosphere (although the skiing would still be poor). As it is, it's not good at all. It's hard to know where to begin with the problems. It felt like we had walked into a scene from a Scandinavian version of Fawlety Towers, or perhaps the set from a Yorgos Lanthimos film. If you like places where cracked windows are repaired with cardboard, where toilets lock you in, where paint is peeling off the walls, where the curtains have holes, where the kitchens are pokey (and tea towels appear only sometimes), where the owner (Tina) claims she has summer tires on her car (in the middle of winter) and so is immobile (although she somehow manages to get around in any case, when she wants to), where the luxury of sheets and a towel cost you (a lot) extra (about the same as our rental of skis, boots and poles for a day), where the shower room door does not lock and the water takes about three minutes (running) to get warm, where the staff have to follow nutty rules and almost giggle when talking about the owner ... well, if you like these sorts of things then this place is for you! For very similar prices there are much, much nicer places nearby (e.g. in Enafors). Even the mid-range hotels (not hostels) we stayed at in Stockholm, Trondheim and Bergen were not much more expensive - and to say they were nicer would be quite the understatement. Final note, unless you have a car DO NOT stay here in winter. It is an hour's walk along a major, dangerous road into Storlien from Storvallen. The buses only run if booked with over a day's notice, and even then they only run once a day at useless/weird times (e.g. 5:30am). The owner of the hostel, as previously noted, is immobile in winter and extremely resistant to pleas for help from guests, no matter what the circumstances. There are some cars posing as taxis, but these need to be booked with a week or two's notice to be sure of getting one (a local advised us). If you do manage to book a "taxi" you will wish you had not. They demand between €37 and €42 for the four minute drive one-way to Storlien. It's extortion, and the locals know this (try asking one about the cost of the "taxis" and see what reaction you get). The horse-drawn sleighs in St Moritz are probably not so much more expensive than these guys, and Storvallen is definitely no St Moritz. As for the cross-country skiing - it's mediocre. Limited trails and scenery, lots of snow mobiles roaring around. Overall: avoid.

Storliens Hogfjallshotell is a classic mountain lodge with more than 500 beds. The hotel offers superb service and entertainment with good food, popular artists and night club. Our guests can enjoy a wide range of activities - from hiking, skiing or snowmobiling, to snowkiting and many others. It's easy to get here by car, train or plane from Sweden as well as Norway. Welcome to Storlien!
The only good thing about this hotel other than "ski-in ski-out" was the bread, which was bearly fresh. The hotel is very old and worn. At the reception you are greeted by a grumpy old lady, probably having a bad day because of the powdered scrambled eggs she's been eating from the breakfast buffet. Entering the corridor, you're greeted with a strong cigarette smell, which was there every time. The room's are big and the only renovation that's been done for 30 years are new floor's. The entire room squeek's when you walk. Beds are soft and just OK. Bathroom (which we paid 350sek extra for) is very worn. There were paint on everything from the pipes to the big a** radiator (I think this might be child labor, because no adult could ever think it's okay to pour half a ton of paint on everything!) There was towel's but no soap (which for 1400sek per night you would expect to be). Did not dare to use the shower in fear I would get portobello's growing out of my tootsies. Time to wake up and head down for some powdered scrambled eggs and boiled bacon! Yup, that's all they could do for your favourite hotel breakfast. I ate some but got some yoghurt instead. The bread was ok if there is any left (I got the 3 remaining slices). For dinner they served only fish, so we went to one of the two "restaurants" called Le Ski which you could also read my one star review on (really grumpy lady taking orderes here, but I would be too living in the middle of nowhere). There is a ski rental/shop in the hotel which is nice, the staff there is also kind and helpful so A+ there! All in all the hotel experience would be tolerable if the nightly price was at max 400sek. But for 1400sek, this is without a doubt the most expensive and worst hotel I have ever stayed in! Did not take any picture's in fear I would see the two girl's from The Shining in it. Enjoy your severely overpriced stay!

Le Ski Lodge & Steakhouse is an old rustic hotell establ 1882 and has been open since then. Our restaurant have a capacity for 130p inside and 50p on the patio. The nightclub is open on weekends and there can be some noice in some of the rooms. We are located in the center of Storlien and you will find shopping and other restaurants nearby. You are also close to skiing, hiking and fishing.
Cool and nice place to stay. If you like authentic, wooden and cozy hotels. Helpful staff who gave us advices about cross country trails. There is a fire place in restaurant and really good food, we had a ribs and pizza.
