In a midevil sleepy town with one third of the houses and shops abandoned, you do not expect a formidable restaurant like this on the edge of the inner city. We had a beautiful 4 course dinner we will not soon forget.

Hôtel particulier nicely renovated in the center of the city. Very confortable and ideal to discover the Limousin region.
Thanks to the owner we felt at home from the very first moment . The hotel is located in the centre of the beautiful medieval town; it has spacious, clean and cozy rooms. Very high recommended to visit the beautiful area, rich of breathtaking landscapes and towns.

Domaine de Romefort welcomes you to the lovely region of the Limousin . Domaine de Romefort used to be a farm but is now converted into 5 luxury gites (holiday homes) and chambres d'hotes (bed & breakfast). 350 Km south of Paris , in the department of the Haute Vienne (right above the Dordogne ), you'll find peaceful quietness, space and comfort . The surroundings are varied, with green acres, forests and hills. The view is simply magnificent. Domaine de Romefort is well suited for hikers, bikers, families that love nature and the outdoors and for example family reunions. 5 Minutes from Domaine de Romefort you'll find the medieval pilgrim village St. Leonard de Noblat. This village offers centuries of history and good restaurants. St. Leonard de Noblat and "Domaine de Romefort" are located alongside very old pilgrim route to St. Jacques de Compostella ( Spain ) and Rome . The origin of the word Romefort refers to Romaeus and Fort . It's a firm and safe place to protect (roman) pilgrims. Many Romeforts were established alongside these pilgrim routes. Before the Barrage de L'Artige was built in the 19th century, the water of the river Vienne had often been too high to be able to cross. In medieval times horses and carriages sometimes had to wait for days before they could pass the river. Therefore many of the travellers looked for a safe place to stay the night. At Romefort they were safe for highwayman and other rabble . "Domaine de Romefort" used to consist of several small farmer cottages with barns. In the 17 th century the Manoir was built. In total there are eight buildings of which - besides the Manoir - two were used to live in. Later these cottages were also used to house cows. Most of the barns have a classic lay-out. In the middle of the barn there is a huge door through which the hay-wagon could be driven. There is a hayloft on each side underneath which there is room for the cows. Domaine de Romefort consists of 8 buildings, which are being converted into gites (holiday homes) of several sizes. The Manoir can be rent as a whole as well as per room (chambres d'hotes). On the entire site is Wifi internet access. You can pay to use a washing machine and dryer. At this moment we have finished the renovation of seven hollidaycottages: Le Manoir (16 persons), Le Tournesol (12 persons) La Marguerite (6 persons) La Rose (5 persons) Le Narcisse (2-3 persons) Le Pavot (2-3 persons) La Tulipe (2 persons), The 100 square-meter heated pool provides great cooling in our hot summers. You can click on the separate gites for detailed information. Down the page you will find a map of the Domaine de Romefort. Domaine de Romefort is located at a distance of 20 kilometers from the university town of Limoges . Limoges has approximately 150,000 inhabitants and is well known for its porcelain. There are many museums and lots of possibilities for a daytrip or a night on the town. At only 5 minutes from Domaine de Romefort you can find the medieval village of St. Leonard de Noblat . Here you'll find cozy pubs, good restaurants and well-stored supermarkets. The old village centre is beautiful and the famous church has a special architecture. It is a well-known tourist village and often markets and interesting events are organized here. At the east side of Romefort there is a vast nature resort surrounding the Lac de Vassiviere. This lake measures 10 square kilometres and has many beaches and offers plenty of possibilities for water sports. The forests in the vicinity are great for hiking and mountainbiking. It is a 15-minutes-drive from the nice Domaine to Lac de St. Helene (see picture above). This is a nice recreational lake. The beach of this lake has a lifeguard and is suitable for all kinds of activities. Next to the domaine the river La Vienne flows. In 2000 this river was equipped for canoes. There are slides next to the dams for canoes, so that you can canoe for hours on end. Alongside the river there are many watermills that are still in use. In autumn plenty different types of mushrooms can be found in the woods that lie next to our Domaine. Many of them are edible. We will be glad to help you determine which ones are. The hills are very suitable for biking. You can choose to go by mountain bike through the forests or with a racing bike over the small roads. You can reach us by car, plane or train. There are many budget flights from Great Britain to Limoges and Limoges is also a TGV station. You'll travel from Limoges to the station of St. Leonard de Noblat within half an hour. If you wish, we can pick you up at the train station.
We stayed here with my 2 children my brother in law his wife and 2 children all in the tournesol, then my father in law and partner and cousin with his 2 children in separate properties. The site is very nice and the properties are a really good standard with lots of space for the kids to play safely. The tournesol is very big and had a wonderful hedged garden at the rear with fantastic views across the valley and saint-Leonard-de-noblat. There is a shared pool, climbing frame and trampoline for the kids which was used on a daily basis. The owners were very helpful and although live on site respect your privacy and we rarely saw them although they were there if required. There is a fresh bakery delivery to order every day apart from mondays and is usually there by 0800. The surrounding area is stunning with some great places to visit such as beaujaleuf and lac vassivierre, it was perfect for what we needed, would highly recommend.
