Everything being fully booked in Sweden this summer, we managed to book a last minute stay at this hotel in the Karl suite (approx 4,800 SEK per night). Straight off, I have to say that this price, for this room is a joke. I don't care how "big" the suite is, it's almost extortion. The bathroom contains a jacuzzi, but the whole bathroom was probably installed sometime in the 80's at a guess (and this INCLUDES the COBWEBS there!!). In the bedroom, the left-hand side of the TV is blocked by a bureau (that doesn't seem to serve any real purpose. Nowhere you can put your suitcase so as to unpack. The "living room" contains 2 sofas facing each other. At some distance, in a corner in a bureau is a 28" (?) TV. Since one of the sofas has its back to this TV, I'm not sure how anyone sitting there could possibly watch the TV comfortably. Along one wall is a dining table with 4 chairs. Someone please tell me what you are supposed to use this for? No tea/coffee making facilities either. The impression we had was that the idea was to "impress" visitors with a number of antiques rather than go for practicality. On top of this, 3 small windows so the whole room was dark and dingy. FORTUNATELY, my wife talked to the reception and we were able to change to the "Victoria suite". This was smaller (as a suite) but more than adequate for our needs. Again, no tea/coffee making facilities and in the bedroom, the decorators considered it more important to put some small framed photos of the royal princesses on a bureau than a TV. (there was the, by now, ubiquitous 28" (?) TV in the living room, again, hidden in a bureau). Long and the short of it, we'd never bother coming back, we thought the overall impression was that bad.

Small but very lovely and clean room. Amazing how many things they fit in without being crammed. We didn’t miss anything. Free car park directly behind the house was extremely convenient in a small place like Mariefred. I definitely recommend!

We stayed here for five nights = 2 adults and one youngsters. Our room (first on right on bottom floor) was very small. Three single beds and barely room to walk by. The sheets were clean but the floors and windows were quite dirty. There was a sink which was helpful. There was also a cupboard which was good. I don't like sharing bathrooms but this was OK. We never had to wait to use one of the many showers/loos - which were semi clean. There is a kitchen/seating area but we never used. We had good sleeps and it was quiet at night. You do have to get the key/go for breakfast to the hotel which is about 8 min walk away. This was no hassle at all. The breakfasts are great - loads of breads, hams, salads, fresh waffles and great coffee and teas and cereal selection. Mariefred is lovely and it is a pricey place - so this was a good deal for the area.
