Manoir de Ponsay is a delightful find. A mini chateau nestled amongst sunflower fields and paddocks of Charolais cattle. We found the owners to be the perfect hosts, offering a genuine welcome with help and advice on days out and local restaurants. We flew to La Rochelle airport and the Manoir is approximatly an hour away by car, near to Chantonnay. The owners had sent directions through by email, which should be followed as it isn't very easy to find. We seemed to take a different route back to the Manoir every day, but always found it! Three of us stayed in a family room which had a very comfortable double bed and small sofa bed in one room, a small single bed next door on the way to the bathroom. The second room was small with no storage space, but it was fine for our teenage son - who lived out of his cabin bag for our 5 night stay. The main double room had a lovely window, in the round tower, with fabulous views. There was a TV, blue tooth speaker and wifi - we didn't really spend much time in the room. The room was spacious and clean, it did smell a little bit musty - but then again it is very old so what should I expect. It didn't worry me apart from when we initially arrived. The bathroom was clean, and well equipped and the shower was amazing. Our towels were regularly changed and robes were provided for accessing the pool across the courtyard. The pool area is lovely and peaceful, and there is a toilet nearby and a hot tub (which we didn't use as it was very hot when we stayed). The breakfast was excellent, with plenty of options including home made cakes which are delicious. We stayed for dinner one evening, and although there were not choices, the meal cooked using local produce was superb. My son and husband enjoyed playing pool in the evening, there is a massive chess set too and lots of games on offer. There is a table tennis table outside under an open barn, Sadly, we didn't get chance to challenge the owner, Laurent, as he says no-one has beaten him! There is also a lovely hammock in the garden, to enjoy the marvellous views. I was a little worried about staying in one place for our 5 nights in France, but it is actually very central within the vendee region with loads of things to do. We went to Puy du Fou for one day and evening, went to the beach at Tranche sur mer, took a couple of walks; to a local castle and also a walk along the river at Saint Laurent Sur Sevre, and took a barque trip at the Marais du Poitivan, all of which we enjoyed. Had we not had advive from Laurent and Aurielle regarding restaurants, we might have struggled to find places to eat, but their recommendations were perfect. Laurent is very proud of his ancestral home, and it is interesting to see the family paintings, photographs and memorabilia on display. Aurielle is a jovial and welcoming hostess, who is a superb cook. In summary the Manoir du Ponsay is a lovely quiet and beautiful place, with superb hosts who also speak English. What a treat.

Un hôtel en Vendée proche du Puy du Fou, de l'Abbaye de Grammont et du Marais poitevin.La terrasse panoramique pour profiter pleinement de la vue sur le lac, détente auprès de la piscine.
Shocking experience. We booked a quick one-night stay primarily for the pool, which Logis stated was open. It was closed - in April. No word of apology. The hotel was tired and dirty. Men were wandering round the corridors - off-season workers, asylum seekers, unsure. My wife found the place very threatening, being stared at. Worse still, in one of the salons a group of men was smoking cannabis - breaking two laws! We stayed in the room and picked up takeaway from the town. We wrote to the hotel - no reply. We wrote to Logis ["Welcome to our big happy family"] and they washed their hands of it. Disgraceful for a hotel in a family-friendly area. We shall think twice about booking a Logis again.

Have eaten here regularly this summer. The food is imaginative and tasty. It is also great value. The patron is courteous and informative with great interest in his customers satisfaction with the food. Please give this place a go if you are in the area.

I stayed here for 2 nights in August as I was attending a wedding nearby. I arrived with my mother who is quite disabled at around midday in a taxi. the office was closed for lunch and did not open till 14:30. We were really thirsty, the bar was also closed. Some other guests gave us some juice, which was very kind of them. There is no shop in this 'village'. it took us ages to get our keys at 14;30 as there was only one member of staff. She was clearly a student and this was her holiday job. There was no senior staff. After the first night, a terrible odour started filling the chalet. There was clearly a problem with the drain under the toilet. Another student/staff member gave us a spray but this was ineffective. There was no handyman and no manager to deal with the problem, only the students who were perfectly friendly but seemed to be completely on their own. There was no free chalet for us to move to so we just had to put up with it. We were glad to leave.
