Had a good experience here even with a language barrier the staff and I comunicated well. It is a nice property with lots of animals to see. We only had one issue the hot water in our room was not working properly. When I reported it they sent a maintenance guy right away to fix it. It worked for awile and went out again. After it went out again they promptly gave us a new room and were very helpful moving our stuff. The hotel staff was also very freindly. I would stay here again and would recomend to others. The hotel also felt very secure and had security at the gate. Thanks for a great stay.

This place is out of this world. I had to reopen my eyes like 5 times before actually starting to believe that yes, I was well awake. Imagine the following: You wake up at around 5:30 in the morning, step outside to the terrace, sit down on the most comfortable chair in the whole wide world, kiss a giant coffee cup with your lips while you let the fresh mountain air take you to a full relaxation mode. If there is a paradise somewhere, it is this address. Absolutely mind-blowing place with nothing but the beauty of nature around you. You actually start believing that you're in heaven.

Getting to Alla Arriba from San Salvador is a solid three hour drive. The road between San Ignacio and Rio Chiquito is incredibly steep with tons of switchbacks - you'll need to go up in low gear - even though it's only about six miles it takes at least 30 minutes. Go down in low gear too or you'll burn your brakes out. The route is well marked - they've put signs up at critical points in San Ignacio and down to the property from there. The property itself is spectacular. During our Sunday morning guided walk (which turned out to be about 3 hours) the owner explained everything they were doing as land stewards, and it is impressive ... as is the variety of flora, both native and that they've planted. The air is clean, the stars are fantastic (bring binoculars or a telescope), and it does get pretty cool in the evenings (mid 50sF). The better views are across the road where the camping platforms are. The cabins are pretty rustic. The floors and walls are rough plank, so bring sandals or something to wear in the cabin. The cabins face west, so you don't get the morning sun, but the birds will wake you up. I wished they'd built balconies facing west across the valley as the room felt a little claustrophobic. There was a TV in our room with cable, but not much else in terms of amenities. We sat on the outdoor patio below the restaurant and read. Bring games if you have kids. Cell signal is decent (not great) and there's no WiFi. The restaurant is okay - you're not going to starve, but it's pretty basic. The chicken breast was good, but the fish dish was severely undercooked, and the steak was way overdone. Service is as good as could be expected - be patient. We'd originally contemplated staying two nights, but only stayed one. We felt like arriving mid afternoon Saturday and leaving late afternoon Sunday was sufficient.
