The livable, lovable city of Xiamen teems with university students buzzing amid Buddhist temples, art galleries and beautiful parks. The city is actually comprised of islands; one of which, Gulangyu, is a peaceful bohemian oasis that's completely vehicle-free. Nibble on some glass noodles or juicy dumplings while perusing shops stuffed with antiques, delicate beads or ceramics.

Sounds charming at first glance and then...nightmare...we arrived in a poorly furnished bedroom... Window directly on the noisy road impossible to let open and awfully smelling cigarettes !!! It seems that other floors were better so if we already planned to come absolutely avoid the 2nd floor !!!

Koala’s Home Hostel is centrally located along Zhongshan Road in Xiamen City, a 5-minute walk from Gulangyu Ferry Terminal and a 15-minute bus ride from Xiamen University. Free Wi-Fi is available in all areas and on-site parking is free.
The rooms here were pretty small, the beds also pretty stiff. Bathrooms small too. Not the most comfortable place, but everything is clean enough and smells okay, so as far as Chinese hostels go, it's good enough.
