June 22, 2021 Phylicia Berquist

A gateway to Fjordland National Park, the quaint and peaceful township of Te Anau is nestled on the edge of a lake of the same name—the perfect site for jetboating or fishing. Embark on one of many day-long or multi-day hiking or walking tracks, then return to town to restore your body with a soak or massage at a spa and a delicious café meal. Nature lovers will marvel at the Te Anau glowworm caves, the Wildlife Park and Ivon Wilson Park, where rare Takahe birds flutter freely.

Rented bikes for a half day. The staff properly fitted our bikes and helmets, ran the payment, and talked us through what path to bike on, in probably under 10 minutes, so no time wasted waiting in line. You can also rent seat covers with the bikes for free. The bikes were really good, quick action on changing gears. We took the bikes around the lake to the control gates and out towards Manapouri. The track is beautiful and varied. I'm an anxious/inexperienced biker and I found the track pretty exciting in a couple of places but still definitely doable and enjoyable. Definitely one of the top things to do in Te Anau!
