We are small independent Restaurant/Bistro offering beautifully prepared fresh food. We design a specials board every day using the best ingredients offering something for everybody. Home to the best Sunday Lunch in the SouthWest!
Having had The Chew Kitchen recommended by friends we were looking forward to lunch whilst visiting the area. We were shown to a table outside, given water and menus then waited twenty minutes for someone to take our order. My husband eventually went inside to order at the bar. A few minutes later we overheard our waiter giving people at the next table their menu, telling them there was a "specials" board inside. As we hadn't been made aware of this we went in to take a look, preferring some of the interesting dishes itemised on the board to what we had chosen. As it had only been a few minutes since giving our order I asked if we could change our order. I was told quite curtly that our meal was being prepared and spoken to defensively, as though I was an awkward customer. No-one apologised, no explanation given, no offer to change. I had ordered a salad, my husband burger and chips. These then arrived ten minutes later by the waiter who was now rather abrupt. In actual fact the food was very good and we enjoyed it - but after all it was a salad and a burger and chips. After finishing our meal the manager came to ask if we would like the desert menu, again rather frostily with no reference to the mistake made by her waiter. We politely asked for and paid the bill. As someone who eats out frequently, and also in the hospitality trade, I know that an apology goes a long way. Also offering something like a complimentary coffee to make amends would have been a nice gesture. Instead we went away feeling disappointed and hurt by the way we had been treated. We are not awkward people; we just like to be treated like customers and with courtesy.

We came here as a family for a birthday meal. Booking was easy and there is plenty of free parking in a car park. Having recently changed owners, the new landlady is lovely and very very helpful and accommodating - thank you! Our starters arrived promptly, were freshly cooked and very very reasonable portions. The mussels starters were especially good and came in a delicious sauce. The goats cheese was also worth a try! We had scampi, mushroom stroganoff, seafood casserole and 10oz gamon steaks as our mains. All were large in portion and freshly cooked using ingredients sourced locally. The alcohol was also reasonably priced and there was a really large choice of ales and gins. We had one of the best birthday dinners and will definitely be back to this pub again. The best in Cheddar! Thank you all so much . Was lovley to read you enjoyed your meal with us .Hope to see you soon Regards Linda x

Stayed at âThe Darlingtonâ this weekend with a group of friends. Penny was absolutely lovely. She was so accommodation to us even though her chef ended up walking out the day we arrived. What we lacked in a chef we made up for in fabulous weather and a lovely beer garden. Needless to say the Thatcher went down a treat.Clean rooms, comfy yet lightly smaller bed (good for a cuddle)For a cute little pub/B & B in the middle of nowhere, it really ticked a load of boxes for the whole of our party. Thank you
