We turned up here on spec on a Friday lunchtime and were able to get a seat at the counter. The wine and food were delicious, and complemented by the extensive views over the Shinano River and out to the Sea of Japan. The service was also excellent. For dessert, we were escorted into a separate room, affording a view of the city from a different angle. The cost was a bit more than we'd normally pay for lunch, but you're paying for the the ambience, the teppanyaki experience and the views as well. For us, it was an opportunity to experience the biggest change in the city since we'd moved away 8 years previously. All in all, I'd recommend it for a special occasion or when you're feeling the need for a bit of luxury.

I have been twice for dinner at Cave D'Occi and both occasions have been worth five stars.The food is first rate, cooked to perfection, service is impeccable (and very friendly), and the overall experience has been excellent. I do not live in Niigata, but I will definitely return when I am back.
