Popular vineyard in Orange Country, Virginia that offers wine-tasting.
We recently spent a long weekend in the Charlottesville area sampling Virginia wine. We visited 5 wineries in 3 days, and the highlight was our experience at Barboursville Vineyards. Two options exist for tastings, in the Library with food or in the Tuscan Room. We chose The Tuscan Room because we were having lunch there as well. When I read that a tasting would be 18 wines, I assumed a number would be chosen from that list. I was wrong! We tasted 18 very good wines. My only complaint was although there was only one other couple in the tasting room, I felt as though we were rushed. Following our tasting, we adjourned to the Palladio, Barboursville’s outstanding small restaurant. BTW, if one dines in the Palladio, the wine tasting is free. I enjoyed a bowl of butternut squash soup and the best fish I think I have ever had, black cod. My husband had a first course of spinach ravioli followed by a vegetable concoction. Both courses were paired with wines. I highly recommend lunch or dinner at the Palladio. Many years ago a local theater group performed Shakespearean plays at the ruins of the home designed by Thomas Jefferson for Governor Barbour. We attended one of those performances of The Tempest. After a lull of several years, those performances will be returning. It was a fun summer evening back then.

Reynard Florence is a small family owned and operated winery featuring hand crafted wines made in small quantities with care and attention to detail.
This small winery was a great addition to our 2-day wine venture into the Ruckersville, VA area. They concentrate on dry wines and produce some very nice products. The Petit Manseng, Rose, Recherche, and Cab Franc wines were quite good. We visited 3 small wineries as our trip focus. Reynard Florence really enhanced this selection of wineries for us. Parking is an adventure, with a steep lane approach and some loose gravel, but in dry conditions it is fine. Check it out.

Happened to stumble upon this hidden gem, which was close to an Airbnb I was staying at with my boyfriend. We weren't sure if it would be open given the pandemic, but we lucked out in stopping by after they had reopened for bottle service (hopeful they can reopen for tastings soon). We had the entire grounds to ourselves and very much enjoyed a bottle of the rose on a hot day in June. We also met the owner, a very sweet lady from NJ. While the vineyard is relatively small, it is quaint and the service was exceptional. Having visited several other Barboursville vineyards/wineries, I would definitely say this is a favorite for the area and hope to visit again soon when fully reopened. Thank you :) Thank you!
