We found this restaurant by accident as the larger restaurants were all full and we didn't want to cook for our large group. After trawling round Vars looking for somewhere suitable for a party of 10 we called into what looked like a tiny takeaway on the main row of shops. IN our very poor French we asked the staff if they could accommodate 10 of us for a meal. The owner/manager? was extremely helpful and said he could push tables together to fit us in. It is an extremely small bar/ restaurant with only 3 medium sized tables. We decided to try it out. We were extremely pleased that we had as the manager Jean Michel was so helpful and friendly it felt like we had his undivided attention as he served us for the evening. To make things even better the food was delicious and much cheaper and tastier than the previous restaurant we had visited in Vars earlier in the week. The main things on the menu were Pizza, salads, salmon, burgers and pasta but the best was the brochette of beef which was served with fries, potatoes in sauce salad, and bread and you could order as many as you could eat for the same price. The beef was so tender and cooked just perfectly it melted in your mouth. The restaurant also has very good free wifi which we found difficult to come by in Vars. The thing that made our visit though was the friendly staff. We enjoyed the evening so much that we returned later in the week and were not disappointed. The bar seemed popular with locals which is always a good sign, I would recommend this place to everyone be careful not to overlook it as it only has a very small entrance and looks like a takeaway from the outside ( they do do takeaways as well) The pizzas were about 8-10 euros, salmon fillet was 14E, burger and fries 11E the brochette was 19E.

We were staying 50m away from this restaurant and had seen it was No.2 on TA for restaurants in Vars. We went twice purely because we didn't have a great meal on our first visit and wanted to give it a second chance. On our first visit I felt the staff were a bit rush rush and they seemed to be more attentive towards the 'regulars'. We ordered the soup to start which was very nice. My husband ordered the steak which he said was nice, our daughters ordered the Pierrade where you cook the meat (duck, pork, chicken & beef) yourself and I ordered the boite fondu. Unfortunately my dish was cold within 5 minutes (i don't think it had been cooked properly) and it was like chewing gum so i sent it back and it basically came back and looked the same except it was runnier. I didn't eat it! The waiter asked what the problem was and he said someone else had complained about the same dish that evening as well. I was very surprised when we got the bill to see that they had still charged me for the dish even though i had complained however as we had had a busy day skiing i was too tired to argue with them! Instead we decided 2 days later to give them another chance and the whole experience was much better... The waitress (sorry I don't know her name) was very friendly from the moment we arrived. The chef appeared at our table with a few 'amuse bouche' and apologised for the meal on the previous occasion and thanked us for giving them another chance. One of our daughters wasn't very hungry and they kindly let her have the nuggets and pasta off of the kids menu. Our other daughter had steak which she said was very nice and my husband and i had the special which was cod with parma ham and pak choi served with sweet potato. It was lovely. If we stay in the same area again we would go back there ;-)

Went here with family including young children. The staff are really friendly and the menu is good, including a special choice for kids. I had the special of couscous with all the extras and it was amazing value in terms of quantity and quality.Highly recommended as an option for a lunch after a morning's ski or an evening meal. The bar is also open all day, and is comfortable and a nice place to unwind.

Hospitality remains the greatest attribute and Jacko has it in bucket fulls! His staff are equally delightful making every visit a pleasure, nothing is too much trouble even when we arrive as a table of nine in 3 shifts! The food is all fresh and well cooked giving a wide range of choice and if you are not driving on or going back on the slope the Colonel Sorbert is amazing! Equally there is also the option of take put pizza if you prefer.Redecorated since last year the place looks great. If you are in the area you must call in.

La Marmotte offers a wide range of dishes, from the fondue to the cheeseburger and caesar salad. From what we tasted, quality is there, with a friendly service (merci Jean-Phi). The main room can get a little noisy though, yet with an young and cheerful atmosphere. Great for groups and families.
