Montmartre

Reviewed By napman

We have been eating at Montmartre since it opened. We expect and always get the best of bistro French food in the City. We came early to allow time to eat at a leisurely pace and still make it to our theater performance. We were there when the restaurant opened and after being seated we took our time to choose our dinner. We each had an appetizer and a main course. To start my wife had the creamed soup and I had the brandade. Both were excellent and exceeded our expectations. The mains were equally wonderful. My wife had the venison tenderloin special which was cooked perfectly. I chose the cassoulet which has been one of my favorites.Montmartre’s was excellent. The beans were soft but not mealy. There was a generous portion of sausage, pork belly, terrine and an entire confit quarter. It was all delicious and as a bonus I was able to bring a bottle of wine from home and pay a reasonable corkage fee. To finish we shared the Ille flottante for dessert. It was delicious again and is one of the main reasons we continue to come back year after year. The service was efficient, cordial and timely. We finished in plenty of time to make it to the theater. This restaurant continues to be exceptional and explains why we look forward to coming back.

Sometimes skill is not required in picking a fabulous restaurant.Forgive me as I forgot to write this review two years ago when we actually dined here. Here goes....we were playing tourists in DC and just wandered through this interesting neighborhood headed in the general direction of the train. As we passed this very inviting cafe style restaurant we felt a bit hungry and noticed many folks heading in at about 5:30/6:00 pm. Well we joined the vortex and was told they only had an outside table. We grabbed it and quickly heard a regular customer, with a reservation, asking if he could move outside as the weather was lovely. The host advised us she now only has an inside table. What a hardship! It turns out that it was on that little balcony like area overlooking but out of the way from all the hustle and bustle. We were grinning from ear to ear.Never expecting that the food would be world class as well, service, professional and prices.....reasonable given Washington, capital area.As we were enjoying dinner we also met another couple (with kids) at the next table that we spent 90 minutes in friendly chatter. They advised us how lucky we were to discover this great restaurant and then get a great table without reservations We must go back and retune this review. I guess the photos submitted by others says it all!

Bistro Cacao

Bistro Cacao is a restaurant with style and flair, serving some classic French dishes and original ones in a romantic atmosphere of curtained-off tables, perfect for a quiet date. We had a delightful and light Brunch on an Easter Sunday of grilled mahi-mahi and a vegetable omelet. The customers all seemed to be locals. Service was friendly and attentive. Reasonably priced.

My friend Beth and I went to Belga after a fashion show for DC fashion week. I had been to this restaurant twice before and it was really good so I was excited to try it again. Everything was great: the food, service, the atmosphere, the hot food was hot, the cold food was cold, the Bordeaux was delicious, & our food was perfectly prepared. I like a cozy restaurant very muchHi Christina, thank you for the review! Glad everything went well, we aim to please. Hope to see you back again soon, cheers!

Cafe Berlin

Reviewed By Louis59

My family and I visited Café Berlin on an October Saturday evening, after securing a reservation on-line. We arrived to a partially-filled restaurant, not as busy as I would have expected, looking forward to a memorable German dinner.Overall, the experience was good, not great. We ordered beers, wine, a pretzel appetizer, and then individual entrees, finally settling on desserts to split between us.What was good?• Ambiance – laid-back, small restaurant with seating inside and outside. It was nice to dine in a restaurant where we could actually hear each other and have a conversation without shouting.• The pretzel appetizer – yum!• The desserts. What we did not enjoy?• Our waiter seemed completely untrained on how to pace a meal. He visited our table three times while we were looking over the menu, each time seeming confused that we were not ready to order. When we did order drinks, it took a long time for them to come. Service was OK, but not professional – more like service in a Jersey diner.• Misrepresented wine on the menu – we ordered a bottle of reisling and on the menu, it referenced that it was a one liter bottle. When it arrived, it was a 750 ml bottle and when I pointed that out to the waiter, he made no effort to check or apologize.• Schweinekrustenbraten Café Berlin Art – a signature entrée during Oktoberfest, but the pork was way, way overcooked – dry, tasteless, tough, not appealing at all.Perhaps we hit on an off-night there, which is unfortunate since it was my first time there. Not sure if we’ll go back…
