Sutherland House is not just Southwolds only seafood restaurant, it is also a neighbourhood restaurant which serves local food for local people.
A lovely evening. We both had fish and it was cooked perfectly, complimented by an interesting wine and attentive service. The dining room itself is very, very old and atmospheric, and altogether made for a special night out. Iâm used to London prices, and this meal seemed very reasonable by comparison, but also compared with another Southwold restaurant we went to the night before where the meal was much less flavoursome and the service incredibly slow.So glad to see you had a lovely evening with us. Thank you so much for taking the time to post us such a lovely review, we hope to see you back here again soon

We have been here numerous times in the past and always had an amazing time! HOWEVER....... on this occasion it was a real disappointment! The menu outside from which we had decided to dine here was totally different to the menu that was actually on offer! When we questioned this the waitress told us that things change however the menu outside was the same when we actually entered the restaurant!!! Not much time to change there then!!!! Food choices very limited, no cocktails available, they say they have a large gin menu but the gins chosen from the menu were not available!!! While the waitress was very pleasant she was completely uninterested in the fact that nothing we wanted from the menu on show outside the restaurant was actually available !!! Will not be returning and will need to find a new fav restaurant in Southwold!!! Xxx

We ate here on 3 occasions, 2 dinner and a Sunday lunch. The dinners during the week were each delightfulThey clearly demonstrated the chefâs innovative and creative talents. The combination of flavours, textures and use of good quality food products that were often matched with unusual but excellent combinations. Of course such skill fails if itâs not matched by artistic and attractive presentation. Here Gareth Knights, Chef Patron, is a master of such skills and second to none locally. Indeed one could easily expect to see this level of gastronomy in our regional cities....not here on the outskirts of Southwold.Sunday lunch was good but didnât match the quality of the dinners...unfortunately the food service operation does slightly let the kitchen down in its lack of ability to organise a smooth, unhurried, quality service. This is about to change has theyâve just appointed a skilled restauranteur to help.We look forward to returning to experience this exceptional restaurant soon.A first class review with some incredible comments- thank you so much. Apologies if an unexpectedly busy lunch caught us off guard and we couldnât control the service to our normal high standards on Sunday. We look forward to welcoming you back for exceptional food and service to match in the future.

The Crown in Southwold is justly famous as a place to eat, drink and relax in a great atmosphere. The menu offers simple, outstandingly tasty dishes, unfussy and untampered with, made with the best quality, local ingredients. With an extensive wine list,
We ate lunch here last week, I think I did better than the others, thefish and chips (hake) was done in a really thin and crispy batter togetherwith chunky dripping cooked chips, delicious. My husband however didnot fare so well.......he ordered smoked haddock fishcakes together withblack rice........very undercooked rice and not a very pleasant taste either.not to be recommended!Staff though were friendly and welcoming.Thank you for taking the time to review The Crown,We are delighted to hear that your fish and chips were delicious. We will pass your comments regarding the fishcakes to our Kitchen staff. We do hope to see you again soon.Kind RegardsThe Crown Management Team
