Maison 1890 is a brilliant gem of fine cuisine, great service and a lovely setting. It is exceptionally successful because it is exceptional, every time. On our most recent visit we enjoyed lighter meals (scallops, squid) which were perfect, with some interesting wines. From experience we can recommend any seafood dish, or the rack of lamb, the chops, the fantastic beef, and the salads (a truly great Caesar).

We went for lunch. Pleasant atmosphere, menu selection not exhaustive, rather bland but copious. I wouldn't rate this as a gourmet experience. They have an interesting concept. You can play all sorts of different table games hence the word ludique. Personally not into that but a lot of people might be. I do believe their evening dinner selection is much better than the one on offer at lunch. I would still recommend it. There aren't that many good restaurants in Ste. Agathe.

We have been customers of this establishment for years, but since a recent busy Saturday night visit have lowered our rating to barely average. Firstly, the ambiance: warm, cute, pleasant.... however our reserved table was adjacent to the entrance/desk making the location unpleasant. My request to sit at a better located table was denied since they were also reserved. The food: not nearly as good as it used to be....2 of us had the soupe du jour, and 2 had the escargot,,,,,all just OK and no better. All the main courses came with the same vegetable assortment,,,,, a dried-out potato mound, an under-cooked carrot, a mushy sugar snap pea, and an OK cherry tomato. My wife had the best main, the rack of lamb. I had the sweetbreads which were sauteed nicely, but without any sauce. Our friends did not fare as well. The fillet was judged just passable, while a scallop and shrimp dish should have been an embarassment to the chef! Deserts ranged from good to terrible. (2 of us ordered the apple desert shown in the picture, unfortunately there was none left, so we both ended up with unedibly sweet tartlets). The service: surprisingly poor, including that by the owner who takes your order. Our reservation was for 7PM. Upon an on-time arrival, we were seated promptly. Our orders were taken some 15 minutes later. An ordered bottle of wine arrived at the table quickly, and immediately poured. First courses followed about 30 min. later, while mains didn't make it to the table until after 9PM when the restaurant started clearing out. All the while servers were scarce: butter was forgotten, forks and knives were lacking with the mains, water refills were not easy to come by, we were refilling our own wine glasses, etc. NOT A GOOD REVIEW. There is no excuse for poor food and service. This is especially so when the kitchen and front are run by experienced owners, and even if the restaurant was lucky enough to be busy/full that night. The owner I'm sure was aware of the evening's shortcomings but nary an apology even to a regular customer.La Chaumiere used to be our go-to restaurant, but will not be in the future. There are enough alternatives to replace it.

We had dinner at this restaurant twice while staying at the hotel. Every dish had an amazingly beautiful presentation but dinner entrees were very good, just not outstanding. Wine was acceptable but would have preferred my red wine not chilled. The dining room is lovely but thought romantic French music would be better than American rock n roll!! The pros most definitely outweigh the cons and if we return will still have dinner here.
It had been a while since we walked in a truly exceptional restaurant: âLes Passionnésâ in Sainte-Agathe des Monts, Québec. (It is also a two-bedroom Inn) We decided to give this place a try given a short menu - always a good sign - filled with interesting ideas. It is also a very small restaurant. We could just say that everything here is perfect. The atmosphere, the service, the wine, but above all, the foods offer a most satisfying combination. And everything comes in a gentle, unpretentious way. My cream of peas with crabmeat and strawberry was a delight. The salmon was melting in the mouth; the veal filet was incredibly tender; even the chicken breast was exceptionally tasty! This was achieved through cooking sous vide (vacuum). A very delicious meal! We would only like, perhaps, to have a few more vegetables and a few more wines on the wine list. The Chef possesses strong academic and experience credentials and it shows. We could not make it to the desert...but we will definitely return. Yes, we found a jewel.
