Reviews on European food in Fortrose, Scotland, United Kingdom. Fortrose (Scottish Gaelic: A' Chananaich, Scots: Chainry) is a town and former burgh in the Scottish Highlands. It is on the Moray Firth, about 6 miles (9.7 km) north-east of Inverness. The town is known for its ruined 13th century cathedral, and as the home of the Brahan Seer. In the Middle Ages it was the seat of the bishopric of Ross. The Cathedral was largely demolished in the mid-seventeenth century by Oliver Cromwell to provide building materials for a citadel at Inverness. The vaulted south aisle, with bell-tower, and a detached chapter house (used as the tollbooth of Fortrose after the Reformation) remain. These fragments, though modest in scale, display considerable architectural refinement, and are in the care of Historic Scotland (no entrance charge). The burgh is a popular location for trying to spot bottlenose dolphins (see Chanonry Point) in the Moray Firth.

After a long 30-hour day of travel, and evening arrival, our B&B host recommended Star Inn. Simply superb! Wife had very substantial Veggie Tart Salad. Never had something so good and unique. I had macaroni bake. Great portion size, all homemade, glorious on a cool night. Located about 7 miles from Inverness airport. Get off beaten path and try this pub/restaurant. Reasonable prices, great service and food! Located in town of Ardersier.

Our B&B recommended this restaurant to us. This is absolutely the best meal I've ever had in Scotland.I will remember the fish dish that I had till the day that I die! I feel myself salivate now when I think of the generous onion rings we also ordered. I also picked off my dining partner's pork dish and it was heavenly. The ambience was warm and friendly and the restaurant faced the water. When we arrived, the restaurant was busy but we were attended to well throughout and never lacked for good service.

Staying in Fortrose and was recommended to go to Sutor Creek, so booked a table as it was a friends birthday.Service was great.Food was fab.The shock was the bill at the end - I think £168 for 4 was expensive and thatâs with a round of drinks (2 of which was soft drinks)

We have visited Inverness for many years and eaten in various restaurants here. Very attentive staff at the Fig & Thistle, drinks arrived promptly, we had a table for 4 upstairs, nice surrounding, food arrived in good time and was beautiful, prawn starter and Duck main, very well presented. food and wine all reasonably priced compared to other higher end restaurants in Inverness. Would eat here again.
