The Newport Restaurant with Rooms

Nice surroundings with beautiful views over the Tay. Staff were welcoming and attentive. We had the 5 course tasting menu and the first 2 courses were excellent.Beautifully presented and full of flavour. Thereafter the standard deteriorated with wish course being rather tasteless and minute in size. The pork main was for us over cooked and again on the small size. Sweet was OK. On the whole disappointing for the standard of food we were expecting, and certainly not value for money. We would not return

Learned of Maxibell at the turn house while playing Carnoustie Championship course. The caddies said it was a “nice” place; in other words, not their cup of tee. Had no reservation on a Friday evening, and while very, very busy, they made room for two. Beers, wine and full bar available. Good looking main menu. We enjoyed 6 tapas, a couple pints of Tennants and sticky pudding. It was excellent. Staff was awesome. Try if you need dinner in Carnoustie. Enjoy.

When we arrived it took a while before we were seated and even longer before anyone came to take our order. Breakfast consisted of a selection of cereals, fruit, cheese etc and there was also a selection of hot dishes on offer. We opted for the full breakfast and to be honest were really disappointed by both the portion size and quality of the food.We expected so much more from a hotel of this calibre.
