Non si può chiedere di più, un bel ristorante in una posizione magnifica, personale per niente invadente e molto efficiente. Il pranzo tipico della zona, non poteva essere diversamente, è stato una delizia dallâinizio fino al dolce

My family and I hiked to Malga Crel on the first day of our vacation in San Martino, as we decided it was a good walk to begin with. Since it's easy, not too much of an elevation change, along a rangers' road, it can fill up easily with families, so it might be better to reserve a table for lunch. We got here too early to eat (lunch starts at 12), so we had drinks and a cake (excellent apple strudel); it then started raining, so we decided to stay at our table, chat and play until lunchtime; we're glad we did, as we enjoyed very good homemade food: polenta with grilled tosela (a local cheese), tagliatelle al capriolo, cervo alla griglia (according to my husband, one of the best venison dish he ever had), accompanied by a glass of good, dry red wine and beer. Prices are very good for a mountain hut (some of them are more expensive and in some case for lower quality). We had our dog with us and he laid down under the table the whole time.

This is a large number operation but both kitchen and front of house work with tremendous efficiency, so that they avoid the chaos that unfortunately often marks this type of "tourist spot" place. The front of house is also pleasant as well as efficient. And the kitchen staff shows some basic competence: a pasta, some vegetables, and beef were cooked with precision. Unfortunately, the (fresh) pasta had not been well separated before cooking, so that it came with large lumps glued together; and the porcini mushrooms in it, while in generous amount, were bland. All in all, food was average. Prices are above average for the quality, but you pay for the the wonderful setting, in front of the Pale di San Martino (pity for the horrendous cableway that mars the nature landscape). The inside rooms are also nice.

I visited this restaurant several times in the past and always admired the beauty of the location, the tasteful architecture and the solid food. Last night I returned with my friends and had a great culinary experience worthy of a review.I started with a velvety pasta e fagioli and ended with braised veal cheek. Both prepared and presented in a way that suggests the possibility of a Michelin star. My dinner companions were equally impressed with their choices. The service, which had been disorganised in past, is greatly improved, professional and friendly.Highly recommended.

Simple, "robust", pleasant local cuisine in this mountain "rifugio" right at the end of a mountain road (then nature begins in earnest!), served in large portions with courtesy and friendliness by the staff. We liked the "piatto della casa" (house dish) with local sausage, polenta and cheese. Desserts are all home-made, of course not it's not the high art of patisserie but it has that unique flavour of genuinely home-made food (we tried a chocolate torte and a strudel). This place is perfect after some physical activity, like hiking, water-rafting, or just a simple walk in the fantastic valleyThe setting is very pleasant, prices are extremely friendly. Three huge courses for two people, plus a couple of beers, water and coffee came to about 45 pounds.
