This restaurant close to the train station in Staufen had good food at a reasonable price. We did not see a menu and the lady did not speak English, but we managed to order and the ham, potatoes, and salad were wonderful. She tried really hard to communicate. She did understand beer and wine, also. We would definitely go back to this place where the locals go.

Having had one or two disappointing experiences with Michelin-starred restaurants, we went to this one with an open mind. We needn't have worried though as it was delicious from start to finish. The restaurant is part of a 'gasthof' which is situated in a small village. They do have a pretty little garden but, unfortunately, the weather was wet and cool when we went.We opted for their set menu and asked for wine recommendations which we enjoyed and which complimented the food well. It is quite a small restaurant, and the atmosphere was very convivial. Attractive paintings, lots of light-coloured wood and white linen make the restaurant light and airy. Service was efficient and cheerful. As can be expected at a Michelin-star restaurant, this was not a cheap meal, but worth every penny. A lot of hard work and imagination had gone into the preparation of the delightfully fresh ingredients. The food was beautifully presented with lots of colour, texture and flavour, and we made the most of our three-hour dining experience taking in and enjoying everything going on around us. We would definitely go back, perhaps next time for a lovely sunny lunch in their garden.
We waited quite a while for service and when we received the food, the portions were very small. The bread was stale. When we complained about the service, the owner came out and actually started to yell making us feel as if we had no right to express our concerns. Then her husband came out and did the same, in fact he invaded our space and literally shoved us out the door as soon as we paid. It was a truly awful experience.

I chose that title since one can be assured of having a very good meal of dishes from the region at the Bolando. Where else but in the Schwarzwald can one get Bibiliskaese (quark) and Braegele (fried potatoes)? Well, you can here! The atmosphere - a renovated barn and stable - is highly appropriate and very welcoming. It is an informal and friendly place. I somehow doubt many tourists find it, off the beaten path in a small village. Note that it can be very busy on the weekends and the staff can be a bit overwhelmed in trying to keep up (my sister-in-law, who lives in the village, confirms this). You can call ahead to reserve. But if you want a really good schnitzel and beer at an affordable price, you'll find it here. Plus a lot of other tasty meals.

In a sleepy suburb of a small spa town, you wouldn't expect to find absolutely first class cooking and a wonderful wine list. But that's exactly your reward for a half hour stroll along the river northwards out of nearby Bad Krozingen. The shady, cobbled courtyard means you can eat outside even on a blisteringly hot day such as we experienced this September. Traditional local dishes such as Kasespatzle and Rahmtopfle are presented with unusual finesse and the owners are knowledgeable about their wine list - naturally, in this prime wine producing area of Germany. One of the best meals we've had in the area.
