Skillet Restaurant

Service is quick though the food is average and the space quite small. The wait staff is not particularly friendly or attentive. They want you in, eat, pay and get out. You have to pay attention for an empty table or someone may just jump in front of you to get it. We saw a customer accidentally spill a full glass of tea for the spill to sit on the floor for almost 15 minutes before someone bothered to clean it up. Other customers tried to bring it to someone’s attention to which a staff person replied, “We see it! We’ll get to it when we can.” If you want quick fast diner food this is your place. If your looking for atmosphere and great service consider somewhere else. Spartanburg has a lot of options.

Beacon Drive In

we attend Carolina Panthers Training Camp every year. the Beacon is saved for our last day in town. i usually order the chili cheese burger and fries. quite tasty. you could order it "a plenty" which means plate is covered with fries and onion rings. way too much food for me but plenty of people order it. the shining star of the place is the sweet tea. made with hint of lemon. sooooo good!! free refills and refill stations are scattered around restaurant. you can also get it without lemon, but you would be missing out. menu is large and i understand they are open for breakfeast but have never made there that early. the beacon was featured on diners, drive ins and dives. we look forward to returning every year.

Had breakfast here two times while visiting in the area. Once, we had breakfast in. Good eggs, bacon, sausage and coffee. Though they were busy, the service and attention was good. The next day just went in to get breakfast to go as we were heading out. However, had to wait longer than usual due to some kind of misunderstanding of the order between the waitress and the cook or cooks. Still good, but was delayed longer than usual. Right on the highway. Good parking lot.

Papa's Breakfast Nook

For some reason, breakfast seems to be the most popularmeal in this college town. We tried to return to Mon Ami, our favorite previously reviewed. Unfortunately it was closed on both Monday and Tuesday. We then tried the Skillet, but left for 2 reasons: a 20 minute wait and tight counter seating. But as Yogi said, Nobody goes there any more, it’s too crowded‼️. We then asked Siri and fortunately were directed to Papas. Busy at 11:00AM and yet nice roomy booths. Seated quickly and amazed at the extensive menu. Specialty omelettes like “The Garbage Can Omelet.” Also the “Philly Cheese Omelette. Burgers, BLTs, excellent grits, fantastic hash browns with grilled onion mixed in (Yeow!). Friendly service. We returned next day with our party of 13 and all loved it. Check em out‼️
