Plotinka is the local name for the weir that separates the city pond from the historical park behind. It had been created in 1723 to provide power to the iron works that stood here once and which were the beginning of Yekaterinburg as a city. The man in charge then was Vasily Tatishchev, now considered the 'City's Founder' together with his successor Georg de Gennin. In 1998 a monument to them both had been erected here. Next to the statues of the two men in their early 18th century garb stands a water tower, built in the 1880's to be used by the railway factory that had replaced by then the iron works. It consists of granite in the lower part, where there is now a souvenir shop, while the upper part, made from wood, now houses a museum about the beginnings of Yekaterinburg.
