St Laurence Church

Great tour of the historic churchyard. Led by very knowledgeable and friendly guide Barbara. Saw monuments to some of the better known residents and heard interesting stories about them and the history of the churchyard. There are over 1400 graves in the churchyard including some Commonwealth War Graves. Would be good if more could be dome to maintain some of the graves/monuments. Had the chance of a quick look around the church before the tour....very beautiful and quite large.... must return to do one of the Church Tours which are apparently held on the first Saturday of each month for much of the year.

Sailors Church

Just go. It’s such an unusual church, totally about and for the sailors of the fishing port of Ramsgate. We stumbled across it years ago and always look in when passing by. Don’t expect grand, blousy or huge. Just think of simple and much needed in days gone by. Dont forget to leave a donation as they have to keep it going.....even though you won’t necessarily be there for long

Shrine of St Augustine

Augustus Pugin - best known for designing most of the Houses of Parliament - radically reformed cityscapes around the world. Pugin built this church as his model of construction, and called it "my own child". Out of all the buildings he built, this was his favourite. St Augustine of Canterbury landed very close by in 597, bringing Christianity back to England. Although is original shrine was destroyed in 1538, St Augustine's is his modern shrine, and contains one of his last remaining relics. There are many things of beauty here, and of great significance too. Despite its stark exterior, the inside is peaceful, tranquil, and beautiful, with major stories to tell.
