Valter BOVETTI, chocolate maker, you share his passion by unveiling the secrets of this magical product that is chocolate. The history of cocoa, the Mayas to his arrival in Spain and in France. Then, the work in plantations, industrial processing illustrated with old machines and the production workshop where you attend at the created of the homemade chocolate. At the end of the visit, the children make a mold and can take them home with the original mold they can then reuse. The tour ends with a beautiful tasting where you will find many specialties of our chocolate You can observe the greenhouse of cocoa. Our chocolate meets European standards of hygiene and safety.

Didn’t do the tour but the staff couldn’t be friendlier and let us do some tasting and look round the shop area! Had a lovely chat with one of the girls behind the counter that spoke perfect English and told us a lot about the museum anyway! We will be back for the tour another day!!

Ecomusee de la Pelote et du Xistera Pilotari

The Ecomuseum of the Ball and the Xistera Pilotari is situated to Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle, a village being between Espelette and Saint-Jean-de-Luz. All the villages of our country have a history related to the pelota but Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle played a fundamental role in the development of this game which became sport. It is here that was invented the xistera. The pelota is a generic name which describes a sport declining in various specialities. All in all, there are 21 disciplines among which each possesses its own rules and places of practice specific as for example the pediment, the foremast or the Jai-Alai. By pushing the door of the Ecomuseum of the Ball and the Xistera Pilotari, the secrets of this symbolic sport, the manufacturing of a xistera and a ball will be revealed to you. You will also assist to the projection on big screen of extracts of memorable parts of ball and will discover the face of big champions.
