On the recommendation of friends who live in the region, we made the short drive from Sort to Llessui taking-in the picture postcard villages of Altron, Sorre and Saurà on the way. After a visit to the Ecomuseu dels Pastors - more interesting than the idea of a musuem dedicated to shepherds might initially suggest - we arrived for our pre-booked lunch at 2pm. The restaurant is not small but gets pretty busy, so booking ahead is not a bad idea.Catalan food is pretty hearty and filling at the best of times and the further away from the coast you go, the meatier and heartier it seems to get. The owners of Casa Kiko are butchers as well as restauranteurs and told us that they prepare all the meat on the menu in-house.The results are amazing. To start, we shared a platter of cold cuts and cheese. No faffing around with pre-prepared slices, you get a chopping board and knife and are welcome to cut off as much formatge, secallona, llonganissa and bull blanc as you like. They bill you based on what's left - and expect you to tell them when you're done, no rush. With the unlimited bread, pate and alioli de cordony on the side, it's easy to leave nothing at all, but the best is yet to come. The main course offers a raft of locally sourced meats, we had cabrit and pollà - and aubergines stuffed with meat and wild mushrooms; all delicious. The easy-going, no hurry atmosphere gave us time to digest just enough meat product to create space for the wonderful home made puddings - top prize went to the house special baked alaska with home made ice cream flambeed with whiskey.Service was friendly and informative - the menu needed a bit of explaining - and the surroundings are homely and comfortable.Excellent value for money, we paid around 35 euros a head, wine included. And didn't feel the need to eat another thing until breakfast the next day!

Had tapas here and the patatas bravado was amazing, the blond haired waiter was also incredibly helpful, helping us with the menu

Went for evening dinner with 2 starving children so tough customers to start with. Service very fast and we mixed and matched the menu. It's basic but good.We had the grilled local sausage and chicken thigh (with tomato bread and baked potato) plus cheese plate and melon plus bread. Followed by creme Catalan (creme brûlée), more melon (which was delicious), and the cottage cheese and honey. All went down well, good honest food. The service was excellent, our waiter helped translate and made very helpful suggestions. Fellow diners did not recommend the white beans or asparagus but then with 13/11 year old boys they were unlikely to come into our choices!!!

We've know this restaurant for many, many years, but this is the first time I've visited. In a nutshell excellent food at a very container food. We arrived at 13.30 and the entremeses and first course arrived promptly. By the second course the restaurant had filed up and the service slowed somewhat, but we were in and out and well fed in 90 minutes.
