RTC

Reviewed By MSS-RS - Toronto, Canada

The RTC bus pass is the best way - far-superior to the monorail - to get around Las Vegas. They have an app and you can download detailed maps; the busses are new, with routes designed to take tourists and locals everywhere imaginable. For starters, take the bus from the airport to your hotel. Anyone can do it. Collect your luggage and head down to Level 0; step out the door, and walk across the parking lot to the 1st bus stop row. Make a right turn, and walk to the end. There is a ticket machine to purchase your pass, which is valid from the time purchased. Buses 108 and 109 are useful to get to the strip and downtown. Confirm with the driver that you are taking the right bus when you board. One bus - the Deuce - runs from the south end of the strip (Mandalay Bay) to downtown Fremont Street. It has 7 x 24 hours service; is a double decker (enjoy the tour); has ticket-purchase machines at major bus stops (which are most of them, and credit cards are accepted); and, bus stops are clearly marked and have a posted schedule. If you are in a hurry, take the SDX (express bus) along a similar route to the Deuce - these are the articulated busses running along the strip. We often take the hop-on-hop-off busses when visiting cities, but for Las Vegas, the public bus system is more flexible, and covers a lot more ground. We travelled for 45 minutes west along Sahara Street (to the end of the line, near the mountains), and transferred to go back along another route, in order to see what LV looks like outside of the tourist areas. From wherever your hotel is located, there are busses and stops in every direction. Typically, the stops are every 1/3 mile (500 metres), and you can transfer to other busses at every major intersection. Bus stops are popular with tourists and locals, so you will never be alone. We found the drivers helpful, as were the abundant security personnel. Do not waste your money on car rentals, Uber, or shuttles. The monorail is inconvenient (route behind the strip and just a few stops). Take the RTC public busses.
