The lower part of the river was mostly restored when they removed the dams. During removal of one of the dams it burst and washed out a large section of the river. Since this occurred and the restoration was finished the fish in that washed out area have returned. I saw someone posted on here it was damaged for the next 100 years- Not true still a blue ribbon trout stream and there's miles of great fishing above and below the old dams. Great river for fishing, tubing, kayaking, canoeing and camping alongside. Most of the camping is available at the forks campground, and she is campground which shecks is has 2 campgrounds across the rd from each other all 3 are rustic and state park campgrounds. The other option is Ranch Rudolph which has showers, electric and water hook ups, a store, a restaurant, and I believe wifi also. The water is pristine until it goes through boardman lake and flows through the city of Traverse City which is due to the water treatment plant and run off from parking lots and city streets into the river. Awesome river to camp on for individuals, couples, families. Alot of outdoor recreation opportunities. There is a large trail system that runs along Keystone Rd. To hike.

This is a large bay off of Lake Michigan with plenty of water activities, hotels and resorts, restaurants, wineries and attractions.
