A wonderful dining experience. Food was delicious and well prepared. Service initially was wonderful, but as the restaurant got crowded and loud, it was a bit of a challenge trying to get the waitstaffs' attention. Still, not a problem as they eventually got to us. We'll definitely go back.

O Barracao is a family owned restaurant in Paol just outside of Torres Vedras. It specializes in grilled meats. Dina and her husband John are extremely welcoming and attend to details in the operation of the restaurant. There were four of us and we each had a different grilled dinner; a ribeye, lamb chops, veal, and a filet. Each was grilled to perfection. Interestingly enough, we were the only foreigners in the place. That alone speaks for itself. The menu is reasonably priced, even with the charges for the bread, butter, olives, cheese, and an extra special meat appetizer. Those charges are fairly standard in most restaurants in Portugal. Service was also very good. If I was to be in the area again, I would make a concentrated effort to dine at O Barracao again.

Dinner at this restaurant was one of the highlights of my trip. It is rustic and authentic, and the octopus salad was one of the best dishes I've ever eaten. The restaurant was packed full of locals by 9pm and the server even left the bottle of port at the table for us (but charged us for just one glass). Okay, the staff weren't overly friendly (who is in Portugal?) but they were polite and professional. The best part of all: we ate family-style and ordered far more dishes than we needed. In spite of this we paid a miniscule 140 EUR for a group of ten hungry adults. Considering the quality and quantity of the food we ate it was a great bargain. I look forward to returning!
