Banja Luka (Serbian Cyrillic: Бања Лука, pronounced [bǎɲa lǔːka]), or Banjaluka (Serbian Cyrillic: Бањалука), is the largest city and the de facto capital of the Republika Srpska entity and the second-largest city in Bosnia and Herzegovina after the capital Sarajevo. Traditionally, it has been the centre of the Bosanska Krajina region, located in the northwestern part of the country. It is home of the University of Banja Luka as well as numerous state and entity institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The city lies on the River Vrbas and is well known in the countries of the former Yugoslavia for being full of tree-lined avenues, boulevards, gardens and parks. According to the 2013 census, Banja Luka has 199,191 inhabitants.

I had lunch with large group of my friends. Staff is very well trained and helpful. All the drink and food orders were served very quickly regarding how many people were being served. This place is famous for its pizzas, but on this occasion I had melanzzane parmiggiana and the dish was extremely tasty, flavorful - true comfort food. Atmosphere is laid back, yet organized, so you can concentrate on enjoying yourself. Decor is also nice, there are high celing, so even though smoking is permitted it isn't a big problem. Everthin is very clean. I absolutely recommend this restaurant if you're visiting Banja Luka.

Yesterday I got invitation to go for brunch at a new place. At first looked promising: free parking available, nicely furnished in a modern bar/pub style, cozy, spacious. They have phone app so you can check menu online. Instead of menus, they give you tablet to check and order. Waiters are friendly and helpful. The choice of food is somewhat disappointing: a lot of pasta and salads, which is quite popular in Banja Luka in last couple of years (but quality of those is nowhere near Italy).So, we choose spicy burgers and different kinds of pizza. Waiter brought fancy lookin pizza and burger whose buns was colored red! There was also rubber gloves (black ones!), as explained, not to get greasy hands when eating burger! All very fancy and entertaining. The problem was, people usually don't go to restaurants just for entertainment, some of us would like to eat there as well!To shorten the story, since there is no more entertainment, the food is bad! Pizza came almost cold, and to be honest I make it better at home.The burger is even worse, it's hard to describe it. All in all, not recommended. Maybe to go to have a drink in a cozy bar, but not to eat.

We were intrigued by the positive buzz about Kafeterija 5 and stopped by on a sunny, but cool afternoon. Yes, the reputation is well deserved. The coffee was delicious. The outdoor seating was comfortable, and what better way to spend a relaxing afternoon.

I went there for a late lunch midweek and found a large formally industrial space pleasantly converted into a rustic open plan restaurant. It has room for over 100 diners and during warmer months there's space outside on a terrace overlooking the river. The local beer Nektar is served here and brewed next door and is a great tasting lager style beer costing less than 1⬠for a half litre. We ordered goulash followed by meats grilled on a wood burning stove with salad and bread from the oven. Succulent meat, spicy stew and cheese laden salad. Total bill for food was 14 â¬

We visited here during our stay in Banja Luka once, but if we would have been more time, for sure at least another time. Our waiter Blaago recommended deep-fried brains and bosnian grilled meat pieces in a bread. We tasted both and I really have to say the brains were really tasty. Tasted those before but this one was the best portion I have had in BiH! Good rakija as well. Thank you, will deffinately come back if we ever come back to BL. Great service, great staff and excellent food.
