We have always eaten at this restaurant when staying in the hotel and have never been disappointed with the fare. It has non vegetarian fare and quality and quantity of items ordered have been quite adequate. The service has been always good and the added incentive is the coupons given to residents, when staying in the hotel. All in all, it's good value for money. Would recommend without hesitation.

Hotel Kandhaas is on main Bharathiyar road (few years back it was bus route to Nagapatinam-Porayar). Even though it is small crumbled restuarant, its food tastes good. Mainly filter coffee, idly sambar and evening snacks and masala milk are run-away success items. Night dinner, many varieties like Veg briyani, veg parotta, special masala dosai, rava idly are hot selling items.Evening we took potato bonda with filter coffee. We had one rava dosai, veg parotta, idly sambar and masala milk for dinner.Rates are very reasonable here.Recently, they added one snacks and bakery outlet next to their restuarant, where they sell sweets, savouries, bakery items, pickles, etc. We bought Vadu Mango pickles, savouries, etc for Rs. 285.00 here. Vadu Mango was fantastic.
The place is a bit away from the main road and can be missed if you don't look for it closely. The dining area is spacious, well lit and free of fish odors. But you get the choicest sea food items( may appear a bit pricey, but believe me, it is worth a try). Even chicken items were quite tasty and less spicy.
Good variety of pastries and cakes. As well as murukku papads and other munchies. Also good Mysore pak

Our experience with the Caravela restaurant has not been great. Food is very ordinary, somewhat substandard in my opinion. Service is terrible, staff are inexperienced. Overall experience is really on the bottom end, given the prices charged. Sadly the management does not seem to want to change anything. We've stayed at the Hotel every time we visit Velankanni, over the past 6 years, and this restaurant has only deteriorated in my opinion.
