We were pleasantly surprised by the service and food quality at Thai Pinto in Chemainus. We split the lettuce leaf roll which was very tasty including fresh vegetables & ground peanuts. There was a slight amount of hot spice to the dish. Our second shared plate was a basil stir fry. Unfortunately there wasn't much of a basil taste, but the serving was delicious with slices of beef, and fresh vegetables. Along with the stir fry was included steamed rice, Won ton "crisps", and a small lettuce leaf salad. Since this was a brunch we were quite satisfied.Another surprise was that the waitress and a waiter were from Ching Mai, Thailand which we visited 3 years ago.The restaurant added to the fun of seeing the town's 30 murals painted on the sides of buildings. We will return to this restaurant.

Chemainus is not too busy in the winter, so a few restaurants we were familiarwith were closed for a short winter break. This restaurant was almost full. It is small, but they looked like âlocalsâ. Everything is fresh and made to order. I had a simple mixed green salad and asked for chicken and olive oil. It was big and wonderful. My husband had the mulligatawny soup and homemade cheese perogies with sour creamâfantastic. The waitress is happy to customize orders, and service was fairly fast. Definitely will return and recommend.

We ended up ordering food that was perhaps closer to Chinese than Vietnamese---which I acknowledge means missing out on one of my favourite cusines. But it was still very good. I look forward to coming back sometime and having their Pho.

HORRIBLE, AWFUL, TERRIBLE and every other adjective in or out of the dictionary that could be used to describe really, really bad food. Spent nearly $100 for take out food for self and friends. DF prawns were so overcooked they were inedible, ditto the almond chicken. S&S pork was super dry and stale, with some kind of sauce on the bottom (not S&S that I've ever had). The rest was also stale tasting and blah. None of us could eat it and ended up ordering pizza....we threw away $100 worth of food. It all tasted like it was old and had been reheated - my suspicion was that was exactly the case. I will never again spend a cent in this place and I would advise everyone else to avoid as well. Really really bad,.

Chicken bugogi tasted okay but I should have remembered that the yakisoba isn't soba (buckwheat) but a wheat noodle, but it was also okay The restaurant is rather plain and not typical of a Japanese restaurant Decor. Many restaurants were either closed for the evening or had closed permanently. Staff was friendly. Tables felt a little sticky, but for a reasonably priced meal it was quite good.
