Well I had been to most of the galleries in town before I stopped at Gibson's Larder for some lunch ( previously The Flying Cow) and as I was walking back to my car I noticed on a ( I assume water) tank I saw a sign saying that if I turn up the road next to the cafe there was another gallery. So I walked back to my car and drove to this gallery... it is about 290metres from their Main Street but the hill is a bit steep... walkable, but for fit people. :) When I arrived at the top of the hill, there was a sign indicating where to park... and on a hot summers day ... parking under a tree is lovely! There are more reasons to visit this gallery... it is inside of a historic homestead. I was met at the front door by a lady who was just the most amazingly warm person... you feel instantly at home and welcomed. This lady turned out to be the artist... :) It's a beautiful old home and part of the local historic walk... so there are a couple of reasons ( as I mentioned earlier, to visit) ... Bianca allows you to walk through at your own pace and ask any questions you like. Showing a bit of her own personality you will notice she has an extensive collection of Salt and Pepper pots, but if you ask nicely she may show you her growing teapot collection. What I can say is there is way more to this gallery than one would expect! The diversity of her paintings will take you from portraits to landscapes to classic flower paintings to gorgeous local paintings of boats... it's well worth wandering through this gallery. She also offers a wonderful range of greeting cards of her paintings. Another unique item are her paintings on gum leaves. They are quite stunning. Clearly Bianca is one of those beautiful people who just love the world around them. I chose a painting to take home with me and asked Bianca if she would allow me take her photo with it to remind me of my visit to the gallery, she was very happy to oblige and I have shared that photo here. Eftpos is available. AND before you leave, don't forget to sign the visitor's book. After saying our farewells I wandered out into the stunning garden to return to my car and was delighted to meet Bianca's husband who was working in the garden... imagine my surprise when he asked sincerely, "Would you like an apple?". I explained I had an apple tree at home and thanked him for his kind offer. In the carpark I walked to the edge of the entrance area and took a photo over the rolling Gippsland hills...thinking that this had been a gallery I may never forget.

Two very unusual items have travelled home to the UK with us. Perfect reminders of a month spent in Victoria. Made by a very creative artist. I treasure our red gum tree cut out of a block and the series of three galvanised pieces called 'eruptions'. If you are a craft person or artist you will be spoilt for choice - or just inspired by the small and big things you see there.

Gecko Studio Gallery is a unique art gallery situated in the heart of the artistic town of Fish Creek. Renowned for their regular exhibitions and stockroom of contemporary art by local artists with invited artists from Melbourne and beyond, Gecko is also well known for quality art framing, a very well stocked art supply store and gift ware and jewellery by local artisans. To top it off, Gecko now is home to a new venture by the owners, Kerry and Michael. HeadQuarters café is their latest addition and is already proving to be a big hit for their fantastic coffee and delicious food.
Stopped for a snack at Gecko on the way to Wilson's Prom, think it may have been the only place open in Fish Creek on a rainy Sunday morning. The staff were delightfully polite and attentive. Excellent tea (me) and coffee (wife) and tasty fruit loaf toast. It was busy with locals and visitors alike. Had a look around the gallery - some beautiful pottery and pictures. Think Fish Creek needs to be visited again.
