Most importantly, the food was good and the establishment seemed clean. Just a less than stellar experience for us. A seven p.m. visit was met with two employees. It seemed understaffed; there were nine people in the lobby to be waited on and thatâs not including the drive through. When it was my turn in line a fly landed on my wrap while she was waiting on my bacon in the microwave. My husband asked her to shue it so she did, them it landed again. When my bacon was finished she rolled my wrap up and wrapped it in the paper without worrying about offering me a new once since a fly landed on it three times by the end of it all. I didnât ask for another because I had one of my kids with me too and I donât believe in pissing off food workers when they make your food. I just didnât eat off that end. Besides the fly incident the female server, who appeared to be a supervisor possibly, was nice. The male, a teenage boy, on the other hand had a very smart mouth towards the other worker and a couple of the customers. Not the best experience but not the worst by far.
This small unassuming place offers reasonably priced homemade cooking. Frequented by locals who seem to know each other, this place offered a nice insight to the area (and isn't that what travel is about?). Service was with a smile. This is a must stop for those who want to eat off the beaten path!
Great food from local suppliers with great staff to wait on you! Their specialty coffee drinks are as good as Starbucks (and maybe even a little better)! A wonderful dining experience in the quaint little town of Brookfield, Missouri.
Continuing our westerly route on a recent trip, we did a lunch stop in Brookfield, about halfway across the Show Me state. The Helm Street Inn is definitely placed favored by the locals. We got there a bit early for lunch, arriving about 11:15 or so. By shortly after noon, the place was packed - and it would seat probably a hundred plus souls. Nothing fancy going on here though. Just a plain ole small town café. The bib overalls and seed corn hats were outnumbered only by the ashtrays. Either you can still smoke in Missouri restaurants or this place just ignores any directives forbidding such activity. Fortunately, while we were there, only one patron was observed puffing away. The food: Joan had a roast beef sandwich and onion rings. She thought they were good. I ordered a Philly cheese steak sandwich and fries. Actually my sandwich appeared to be much the same as Joanâs. They slapped on a slice of cheese on some thinly sliced roast beef and sprinkled on enough bits of bell pepper and onion to call it a Philly cheese steak sandwich (but not enough to make it taste like one). The sandwiches were sizeable but the buns never saw the top of a grill - they were cold. I suspect that I would have been much happier if I had gotten their Thursday plate special which it appeared that most other folks did. If we ever find ourselves in Brookfield, Missouri again some day, Iâm rather certain we will be eating elsewhere. The lady serving us was friendly and efficient though. $21.00 with tax and tip.

Fantastic! Nice diner with reasonable small-town prices. They have Walt Disney related decor in conjunction with the nearby museum. But what really stood out to us was the friendliness of everyone there. I think thatâs something you expect from most small towns, but the people here are just super.
