Sugar Shane's

There are limited options for dining in Augusta beyond fast food places. While in Augusta for a funeral, our familly went to Sugar Shane's as one of the few restaurants that might accommodate 15 people. They were accommodating with providing seating for the large group. There were limited options for the wine drinkers, but the mixed drinks were decent. The frustration was that when orders were taken, we waited to be served for over an hour, and due to this, our opinion is a "poor" rating. While this was a large group, we noted that at least 15-20 people came through and were served while we waited. The food acceptable and reasonably priced once we got it. The setting is nice.

I keep forgetting my last visit and keep coming back. I can't recommend this location although I like the Sonic in general just fine. On this visit I was driving from wichita to joplin and wanted to make sure I didn't end up wearing my food. So I ordered a New York Dog with small amounts of Kraut and a Chili Cheese Coney with small amounts of cheese. See picture below. While I was ordering she kept asking me to speak up and repeat my order. Why didn't she just step out and ask me for my order if the equipment wasn't working. I ended up with a New York dog that tasted like they had burnt the onions and poured salt on it. No a lot of salt. Like a top off the shaker lot of salt. Then they put extra cheese on the other dog instead of less. Rude. Had to throw away both orders and didn't get dinner that evening.

Typical truck-stop fast food experience at this Hardee's at the Towanda Service Center on the Kansas Turnpike. The taste of the food is good Hardee's burgers with fresh and large pieces of lettuce, onion and tomato. Service varies from day to day - sometimes very friendly, sometimes not so much. The dining room is not spotlessly clean. We usually arrive mid-afternoon and can find a fairly clean table. Your order is brought to the table if you are dining at the travel center. The dining room is shared by both the Hardee's and a Duncan Donuts. The chocolate malts are freshly made by hand so they take a few minutes to make, but they are a little on the over-priced side for the size. Be sure to emphasize "malt" or you get a milk shake and tell them to leave off the whipped cream because it doesn't add anything to the malt. .

Driving through town heading to a basketball game. Reviews on Trip Advisor drove us here and we were not disappointed. Our waitress was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Two in our party did fried chicken and two did pizza. All outstanding.
