After the four of us (two US couples, 60-ish) returned from a cruise-based land tour, we strolled thru the âDolphin Portâ and found a terrific conveyor belt style sushi restaurant. Itâs casual, friendly, quick and had English menus. The sushi, shrimp tempura and Udan noodle soup was perfect. Very affordable at about $12 US per person. Donât miss this place - youâll love it.

Best sushi spot in Japan!! By far! It's best to speak a little Japanese, but I was lucky and had bilingual guest there both times. The food is amazing, the price is incredible for the service and quality of food. It's a local spot but extremely welcoming. I always left with my belly full and a big smile on my face. I can't wait to go back! The chefs are characters they had the whole restaurant laughing every time. this is a MUST SEE if you are in Kagoshima, its super easy to get to from the main JR station

What to do and see in Kagoshima, Japan: The Best Places and Tips
This sushi restaurant is almost directly behind Dormy Inn in the alley. We walked in and were apparently lucky to get seating without a reservation. If you're staying at a hotel I recommend asking the concierge to make a reservation for you. It seems they only do one seating per evening, maybe two. There are about 10 seats at the bar. It may seem intimidating at first but the two chefs are very friendly and will work with you if you don't speak Japanese. The meal is set multi course chefs choice. They asked if there was anything we don't eat and we were off! First course was a crab salad that was divine, followed by a plate of escargot, squid, and pickled burdock. Next was an epic mixed sashimi plate. Then sushi, served one item at a time. I lost count, maybe 8 pieces, all excellent! Maybe my favorite dish came next, uni on a bed of salmon roe and rice. A tuna hand roll and miso soup finished it. The chefs and some nice customers talked with us for a while after the meal as we drank tea. All of this was a deal at 12,000 yen for two with two large beers!
