Sushi Omakase serves some of the freshest and rarest fish in California. 'Omakase' is a Japanese phrase that means "up to you". Customers ordering omakase style expect the chef to be innovative and surprising in the selection of dishes, and the meal can b

This restaurant does not serve Japanese food in the classic authentic style. It serves an Americanized version. Some might call it Asian fusion.I had the Kitchen Sink Roll for $18.95, the most expensive roll on the menu. It was large enough for two people. I ended up sharing part of it with two companions. The roll has four types of fish, avocado, crab, mayonnaise and hot sauce on the rice roll. It is at least twice the size of rolls found at other restaurants. The roll tasted very good. I could not tell how fresh the fish was because the Mayo and hot sauce masked the taste of the fish. I probably would not order this again as I prefer more traditional Japanese sushi. However, those who like Asian fusion will like this roll a lot. Some of the other rolls cost under $10 each, so this is an affordable restaurant. The menu shows some items with higher prices at dinner. Lunch is a better value if you plan to order a bento box; prices do not change for sushi and roll items. One of my companions ordered the California roll. He liked it a lot. Another companion ordered the chicken and tekka bento box. (The name on the menu isn't bento, but that is what it should have been called.) She did not like the teriyaki chicken because she said the chicken tasted like it had been reheated. The third companion ordered tempura. It was deep fried, but was not crispy and flaky like traditional Japanese tempura; when it cooled, it was greasy. We also had the fried calamari appetizer. One of my companions liked it and the rest of us thought it was only okay. It was prepared like onion rings. There was too much batter and not enough calamari. But for only $6.95, we received what we paid for.In sum, the food could be better, but it could be a lot worse. According to my friend who lives in Gilroy, this is the best Japanese restaurant in town. However, this opinion depends greatly on personal preference and what one orders. The service was very good. The waitress was congenial, helpful and efficient. We were promptly seated upon arrival and service was timely. The restaurant appeared orderly and clean. The bathroom is unisex. There is only one bathroom for the entire restaurant, which is not that large. The restaurant is divided into two areas. One area has the bar and booths. We sat in a booth and were comfortable. The other area has tables and then a sushi bar to sit facing the chef.Parking is easy to find in the lot in front of the restaurant, which is located in a shopping center.
There are not many reviews for this place. I decided to go anyways. I went at 6:30, there was no one there, but I decided to stay. It looked clean, there were alot of receipts on the counter, I was assuming from the lunch crowd and may be early dinner crowd!? There were no 'waitresses', may be an owner, who decided to stand directly at my side until I ordered, felt a little odd, though she was very nice. Sushi was pretty good. As I was sitting in my car getting ready to leave, I looked up and the same person who served my dinner, came out of the restaurant with a dog!! Left me thinking... I am not sure how to rate this. Pretty sure I won't be back.
My MIL is Japanese, and this is her favorite place for japanese food. Good food decent prices you can't go wrong here
