My daughter and I were in Claremont for a couple days and decided to try out Kazama for dinner one night. It is a popular place but we were able to get a table and ordered a few different things. Everything was DELISH, especially the sushi rolls. Fresh and reasonably priced, I highly recommend Kazama!

I feel like the previous reviewers who gave this restaurant a good rating have never had really good sushi. We ordered a hamachi roll. The raw fish did not taste fresh and the nori (seaweed) was chewy like it was old. Good nori should be crispy. I asked the waitress which was better, the chicken or the salmon teriyaki and she said, "Definitely the salmon." When it was served, it was over cooked and hard as a rock. Fresh salmon that is cooked properly should be soft and tender. We also ordered the tempura but did not really eat it because the batter was too thick. Its supposed to be light, airy and crunchy. The dining room has a very strong odor of frying oil that hangs in the air as if their kitchen exhaust fan is not working properly. Seriously, why bother??

We went on a Friday night and were a little disappointed in the wait time to be seated for such a casual restaurant, the service once we were seated was impressively speedy and the value was great. Everything was fresh and we loved the flavors. The roll selection was really good with something for everyone.

This restaurant makes very good sushis for a good price. They offer a great choice, from simple, cheap rolls, to sophisticated ones.We went there a lot of time and never were disappointed. We also had a huge party platter once (around 70 pieces). It was ready within the hour and really good. The service is fast and very friendly.
