The Derby never disappoints! Our party of 4 was seated immediately (with reservations) on an early Saturday evening. Our waiter, Jim, was fantastic. One of the best we've had there. Food, as always, was prepared properly, served at the appropriate temperature and very tasty. We all had some form of steak and they were cooked perfectly. Sides are generous and dinners come with vegetable & choice of potato or rice. One of the couples was celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and Jim brought out a Baked Alaska for dessert. He was always on the spot, without being intrusive. Will definitely ask for him in the future.

Wow, I was so excited after spending hours trying to find a restaurant in Pasadena area for New Year's Eve to accommodate 8 family members from 3 generations (all out of area). We reviewed the menu and it looked great with a wide variety. When we got there and seated we were surprised that it was a fixed menu of $40 or $50 per person plus/plus with only several choices in each category. We were never told and the hostess told us "people leave all the time just like Christmas eve"...this is NOT a good practice. We ended up leaving the restaurant.

A bit pricey, v busy on a Friday night. The food was really good from the appetizers, empanadas and calamari, to the entrees. Each of our three meat/ steak entrees were delicious. Avoid dessert though.Good night out!

My wife grew up in Pasadena and took me to her parents favorite restaurant last night. The restaurant is rather old with mostly horseshoe shaped tables and western art motif. The menu is quite varied, but fairly inexpensive. My wife had the shrimp dinner and I the fish and chips. Both meals came with soup or salad and vegetables. Thinking that the choice of soup would be smaller than the salad, I chose the soup. It was a huge bowl of vegetable soup. My chose their famous bean soup; also in a large bowl. Both were fantastic, but I couldnât finish mine, so our waitress Patty offered to box it up for me. The meals were terrific and the service was also exceptional. When I paid her at register, she asked if we were local, because she had not seen us before. I told her about my wife and thanked her for the service. Another party was ahead of me, and she knew everyone by their name and they come weekly. We will definitely return in two weeks for a funeral and eat there. Great food at fair prices with great service. You canât beat it!
