J. Gilbert's is an "upscale casual" steakhouse serving prime-aged beef cooked over a mesquite wood-fired grill. Guests enjoy various cuts of steak, fresh seafood (including award-winning crab cakes) & other house made favorites like the Maytag Blue potato
Another great evening at J Gilbertâsâa super way to wrap up the Labor Day holiday weekend. Martinis were excellent and 1/2 price wine on Mondays is hard to beat. Fabulous buffalo mozzarella and heirloom tomato salad to start followed by a sirloin steak for hubby and filet & shrimp combo for me. Totally awesome and Rob, our server, made it a relaxed and wonderful evening with dinner in the barâour favorite. We have been coming here for years and it never disappoints. Thanks for a great time. Canât wait to return.

As a travel professional I attended a meeting at Dakota Steakhouse and the number of private meeting areas is commendable. While there our group enjoyed dinner. We had the steak and scallops and it was the first time in ages that a waitress asked me when presenting my meal to cut into the steak to make sure it was to my liking. It certainly was. they also have a murder mystery each month which sounds interesting. We will be back.Great to hear. Please check our website for updates or sign up for our newsletter via the website. Thank you for your business.

We have made The Capital Grille our go-to venue for special events and we had four birthdays to celebrate -- husband's, mother-in-law's, stepfather-in-law's, and my impending milestone event. The valet parking (LAZ) was attentive and polite. Our OpenTable reservation was immediately honored. Our table was decorated for the birthdays, which was a nice touch. The server was professional. The description of specials was problematic, as there was no price offered for each appetizer and main course items. Also, I ordered a Perrier, but was asked if a Pellegrino was acceptable, which it was: I was very surprised to see a large bottle of sparkling water, when I was expecting a single-serving size -- particularly as I was the only person drinking sparkling water (and would have been perfectly happy with a club soda from the soda gun at the bar). We ordered appetizers, steaks and two sides. The lobster bisque and clam chowder were reported to be excellent; the corn chowder seemed a bit thin; the beet salad was a miss -- the beets were too thick and use of red and yellow beets would've made the plate pop, rather than just red beets. All the steaks were excellent. The creamed spinach was good; the au gratin potatoes had a novel topping, but we prefer the au gratin potatoes at J. Gilbert's. Complimentary desserts were provided and received excellent reviews, although I ordered a creme brûlée and took mine home. The server kindly got an extra bone or two for our pups at home, which they devoured this morning. One minor complaint: we had thought that the remainders of the bread basket would be in the leftover bag, but perhaps we should've made that clearer by putting the breads on a plate -- I was looking forward to toasting the dark bread for breakfast this morning. Long story short -- my so-called "acid test": would I go back? Yes, we like The Capital Grille for special occasions and will return for anniversaries and birthdays in the coming years.

The crown jewel of the Hartford, Connecticut dining scene, Max Downtown has been serving its guests for over 21 years and remains a fan favorite. After a top-to-bottom renovation in the summer of 2017, the restaurant has never looked (or tasted) better.
