When I was in Venice my friends invited me to discover a small fish restaurant in the countryside near Venice. We had the degustation menu with 10 courses so we could try almost everything which was on the menu. We were served by the chef himself Mauro and his parents who run the place. We had raw and cooked fish prepared and presented to perfection. We had all the traditional Venetian food like octopus salad, baccalà , warm spider crab with mango, monkfish with an artichoke mousse, squid risotto, gnocchi with lobster.... the courses kept on coming with extra surprising small plates in between. Even if Mauro wears a Mohican hairstyle, he is very humble and understated. He clearly loves to serve his wonderful food to his clients because he is in and out of the kitchen talking to them and explaining what is on the plates. The restaurant was full of regular clients because they were called by their names. Nice atmosphere in this family run business where the food is the star of the evening.Reservation is needed.Grazie mille ....la ringrazio per la sua recensione e spero ci saranno altre occasioni per incontrarla e cucinare per lei

At the edge of the Roman graticulate we can find an ancient tavern with thick walls, softened in the worn out plaster, warm, punctuated by the time. Vegetations, planted as gifts, flowery corners anf fragrant herbs. You can catch movements of little anima
If the bells are ringing when you enter Ballò you know you are close to the Osteria, a building dating to possibly 18th Century, adjacent to the church. Tuesday evening is traditionally vegetarian with an option for grilled meat if you so desire. Understand it is informal, there is no menu, don't dare to ask what's being served, and expect to start eating at 8.30pm. Tables are served, apparently, in the order that guests arrived. The cook, Gianni, cooks, and the waiters - well they wait. Go with their rhythm. They won't make a fuss over you, so don't fuss them!!Our vegetarian "tasting" menu consisted of: grilled winter vegetables along with a light orange and walnut salad: delicious polenta served on a wooden board and topped with broccoli and melted gorgonzola; lentil soup (I thought it had a curry flavour but didn't ask); pumpkin lasagne; "radicchio in soar" (similar to endive, in a sweet-sour traditional Venetian marinade with pine nuts and raisins); leek pie; and fritelle (seasonal doughnuts flavoured with grappa served around the time of carnival). All this, with wine, water, coffee and home-made grappa for â¬24 a person. Hope to be seated in the furthest room with the huge fire where the meats are grilled. Don't make a fuss if you're placed anywhere else.

It's nice, after a day of touring to come to the villa for some very fine home cooked meals. There is plenty of food and varied over the nights we were guests of the villa.

Our friends who live locally took us to this restaurant which from the outside looks like a warehouse. But Wow! once you enter the building you seem to be in the centre of Venice. The restaurant is a faithful reconstruction of the calli, campi and campielli of Venice, as well as some boats which seem to be floating in the canals. We ate on one of the boats. So atmospheric.Sadly, the restaurant was let down by the food. All our dishes were very salty - two fritto misto and two pan-fried fish. Waiting staff were friendly, and by the time we left there were lots of customers.
