Although it's only a 30-minute ferry crossing away from mainland Chile across the Chacao Channel, verdant Isla Chiloe – the largest in the Chiloe archipelago – is another world. Sixteen wooden churches clustered around Castro on the island's east coast have UNESCO World Heritage status, and traditional palafitos (houses on stilts) dot its shores. Our restaurant rescues the typical and traditional food , like the can- cato salmon , crab chowder , fresh maricos , besides having a beautiful ocean view, the room combines modern and classical architecture Chilota and excellent service .
... to get one of four tables facing the sea in the upper floor as the view is beautiful. Apart from that the food is good but not exceptional while prices are above average for the portions you get. We ordered a Valle de Casablanca white wine to accompany our dinner, but the wine was not our cup of tea.Be aware that the menu is in Spanish only and the staff hardly speak English (but come on, you are in Chile!).

As others have noted, it seems an unlikely spot for this gorgeous hotel but you will happy once you see the location and the way this ecolodge is built into the scenic hillside. We had a lovely suite "Bosque" with a comfortable king bed and stunning views over to Castro. The staff expertly caters to their guests and went out of their way to make sure that we got/had everything we could possibly need. The grounds of the hotel are well worth the steep but easy hike to the beach and we were fortunate enough to view the endangered black neck swans which make their home in the tidal pools. The meals were good and the breakfast pastries will set your weight loss program back a few days but were worth it! It is a 1/2 hour drive to Castro and we were very pleased that we did not stay in the town but enjoyed the views of it from across the bay. We drove around to explore the area and view the Chiloe churches and delighted in knowing that we had the best spot around. Enjoy the fireplace every evening in the main house with some good local craft beers, a Pisco sour and some great wines - you will be happy you chose this luxurious ecolodge.
