Ninos Ihaw-ihaw lived up to its reviews. The kinilaw is excellent, the grilled macakerel (tanigue) is done perfectly, soft and moist inside. The steamed shrimps are just sweet with a hint of the sea, calamares crisp on the outside soft in the inside seasoned just right. Oh the rice is equally excellent, sticky variety. The prices are very reasonable, actually cheap. Oh almost forgot, the bam-i noodle is not to be missed.
The place is clean and the attendants are polite. You may choose from pre-cooked dishes or you may order fresh fish and other seafood for cooking. It is right across the bus (Ceres) terminal in Kalibo. Parking space is also available.
We had lunch at KUBO on May 2017 before we headed to Boracay. It was a great relief to find this restaurant because the night we arrived, we could not find a good place to eat other than McDo and Jollibee. The restaurant is made mostly of bamboo, and thereâs an artificial coconut tree in the middle. Open-air dining, wooden tables good for large groups, and monobloc chairs. Itâs the typical local restaurant, and itâs easy to feel at home.Dine at KUBO if you want fresh, delicious seafood and local dishes. One of the must-order is chicken binakol, quite similar to chicken tinola but with a twist. Binakol uses coconut water, and I was told they cook it in bamboo for more flavor. The prawns were big and fresh and perfectly grilled, and the oysters were definitely highly recommended. We also tried some grilled lapu-lapu, stuffed squid, and pinakbet. The stuffed squid was tasty, I consumed about half of it for myself alone. There were only three groups when we dined, because that was lunch time. I think the restaurant gets more guests at night. The service was not slow, because we understand the food we ordered were plenty and needed preparation. For me, the price was reasonable considering the taste and the serving size.
Where to eat Bar food in Kalibo: The Best Restaurants and Bars
This is a really nice spot with easy parking. The staff have clearly made an effort to make outdoors dining pleasant, with mosquito smoke coils and good lighting. The service was disappointing. They seemed understaffed so waiters were rushing and distracted. They often ignored us and the table next to us was sitting for 15 mins without menus! The drinks were not good. My buko shake was just buko juice with some ice floating round in it. I told the waiter it shouldn't have big chunks of ice like that, so he fished them out and I just had lukewarm buko juice. The food was not worth what they're charging. Everything arrived cold (probably because of their serving staff). The baby back ribs arrived cold. Dry , chewy and tasteless. The only thing flavouring it was the sauce, which tasted like it came out of a can. The waiter admitted the ribs were precooked and frozen. At least reheat it properly! The bbq chicken tasted like it had been precooked. Dry, tasteless and a tiny portion. The oysters tasted ok, but were served at room temperature.Overall we paid 940 pesos for a meal for 2 of us. A lot of money for a poorly reheated, overcooked meal.
