We finally made it to the Pilotlight late in our vacation and were somewhat underwhelmed. We'd heard how great it was, etc. Our sourdough bread was burnt black, the service was mediocre. The fish tacos were good and the duck egg pasta and shrimp was pretty good, but not excellent. Just not as good as it was hyped up to be.

Restaurant in the Halsingland Hotel in Haines, Alaska. Great bar for drinks before dinner. The dinning room has great views of Fort Seward and the mountains. My wife and I had the salmon and the halibut. Both were really good - very well prepared and presented. Excellent!

This simple food shack serves the most amazing food - from crab to their specialty, the halibut to crispy golden fries....it's so fresh and delicious! The servers are so friendly. Eating your halibut sandwich at a picnic table in the gorgeous Alaska outdoors....pure pleasure!

The Lighthouse Restaurant is, not surprisingly, located right near the water at the marina. There is some parking.We stopped in for lunch and noticed that a lot of patrons seemed to be residents along with us visitors. I always like it when we walk into a place and are immediately acknowledged, which happened here, and we were instructed to pick a table. The ambience is what I'd call homey and no-frills, which in no way is a negative for me. Everything was super-clean and screened windows were open (not being an Alaska resident, it was a bit chilly for me and we had to get one of the windows next to us closed, which was cheerfully done).I ordered the halibut fish and chips and hubby went for a combo halibut and salmon fish and chips. Both of us thought our fish was fried beautifully and was really tasty. Here's something we both noted -- the ketchup dispenser was a plastic squeeze bottle but it had an unusual spout that seemed to keep it very neat and clean. In fact, there wasn't a smudge on the whole bottle. This kind of thing is really important as it tells me that people who run the place are paying attention.Where they could have paid a bit more attention is in the ladies room (which you access by going into the adjacent bar) -- they were out of soap there.
