Nestled in the tranquility of picturesque Genoa Bay on Vancouver Island, about 1 hour north of Victoria and only 20 minutes from Duncan, the Genoa Bay Café has rewarded guests with one of the most delightful dining experiences in the Cowichan Valley.
Four of us had lunch here recently. Lovely sunny day so we sat outside on the deck overlooking the marina. Lots of serving staff standing around when we entered the restaurant. Promptly seated and the waitress was friendly but in a way that was more suited to entering a bar. If you are charging high prices then the service should match. Spinach salad was good but the calamari had way too much coating on it but the portion was generous. The huge disappointment were the lamb burgers which we all had. Very little flavour, lacking seasoning and the texture and mouthfeel was awful. Not sure how they make these but I see that another reviewer mentions rice flour as a filler. Had to ask several times with different servers to get water glasses refilled. The prices do not match the service or the quality of food so unfortunately we will not be going back in the near future.

This place is where you go to have delicious food artistically presented, and when you aren't in a rush but can sit back and enjoy the show. My two sons chose the wine-paired 5-course chef's choice meal, and I had to have it without the wine as I was driving. I did let the lovely waitress choose one red wine for me, and it was very nice. The food is beautiful. Small little portions, but enough of them that I left full. They can do one for vegans with 48 hours notice, which I will try next time. If you have a special occasion, or want a nice and laid back delicious meal, you should try this place.

My wife and I ate there tonight. We were both in the mood for fish and chips. First of all, although the server was friendly we waited a long time to be served. I had the halibut, my wife the cod. The cod came battered with panko and was over cooked. The halibut had a beer batter that was light and very good. The fries were good, but the coleslaw was a little dry. We had to wait at least 10 minutes to get our bill which was not appreciated.

Salty's was the specific place that my wife wanted to have her Birthday lunch. We arrived at 2:40pm and our server was Alisha. We both ordered the "Daily Special" which consisted of one piece of cod and 12 panko shrimp. The large portion of food was perfectly cooked and served piping hot. The homemade coleslaw was delicious as was the tartar sauce. Alisha's service was excellent, attentive without being forced. We think the prices on the menu are very reasonable. We have never had a bad meal here and will very definitely be back.
