We came in here on a busy Saturday night. The atmosphere is great and the food is even better! I had the Mexican burger which was fabulous and my partner had the pork tacos which were also good. The only let down is the staff, one of which was quite rude and swearing quite loud and frequently. Overall, it was a a good pub feed and I would go back.

We love this place! They have a great range of cocktails and top shelf spirits. I'd recommend the champagne cocktails and the French martini - delish! The staff are friendly and accommodating. The bar is located in the historic Carrington Hotel so you're surrounded by old world charm! Highly recommended.

We patron The Alex several times a month to eat and have a few drinks with our friends and family and have been so pleased with the new owner's menu as well as the decor changes. We were very concerned to arrive on Sunday afternoon to Life and Death Bikies (in colours) throughout the pub and it was hard to concentrate with bikes revving so frequently within close proximity. It was obvious that many customers felt uncomfortable and some intimidated. After speaking to other locals the gang is now frequenting the pub regularly and the overall vibe of the place has changed. So sad as we love coming here. The situation was a 1 off and won’t happen again. It is not who we are.We are a community pub.

Blackburn's Katoomba Family Hotel

We eat here about once a month. Good food at decent prices and reserved but efficient service. It keeps us coming back. And we will be back again. Hence the 4 out of 5 rating. We had dinner on Wednesday night and something must have gone wrong in the kitchen because our food took FOREVER. It seemed we werent the only people as most of the tables had no food for what seemed a long time. All the customers were staring at each other with "what is going on?" expression. This is actually the 3rd time this has happened to us over the last 5 months. No explanation from staff and we didn't want to ask as everyone seemed a little frazzled. Plus the food was a bit slap dash (in a rush to get things out?) - one dish had 2 serves of salad instead of chips and salad, my steak was rare instead of medium rare, the mash was hard and lumpy. Husbands pork sausages were delicious and perfect though. As commented on above, we will come again and I still recommend it to anyone that asks as the best place to get a decent, hearty meal at good prices in Katoomba. And in winter the restaurant is really cosy with the fire going. But I thought our experience worth mentioning given this wasn't a once off occurrence.
