Reviews on Pizza food in Heidelberg, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. Home to the oldest university in Germany, Heidelberg was hit hard during 17th-century wars and rebuilt in the 18th century with baroque buildings. For a pleasant walk, stroll through the historic city center's Gothic streets. Be sure to take in Heidelberg Castle, the symbolic heart of the city; Alte Brucke, a beautiful 18th-century bridge; and the Student Jail. Built as long ago as the 16th century, it was used to keep mischievous students off the streets for three days to a month at a time. And they say Penn State is the number-one party school!

This place is a hidden gem, a favourite among locals and Uni students. First, let me preface this review, I'm from San Francisco where I spoild, especially because of all the good pizza available in the city. Honestly, until I found Unter Freunden, I experienced culture shock because of all the terrible pizza in Germany. Before Heidelberg, I also lived in Berlin, but while I was there, I had to brace myself for a life without pizza:( One of my worst experiences in Berlin, was when my German friends invited me out for pizza. Suffice to say, I survived, otherwise I couldn't have written this review. Until I met Unter Freunden, I assumed Germans were suffering from some sought of sensory deprivation, because they seemed to enjoy pizza in Berlin. I lived in Heidelberg for over a year, before I discovered this restaurant; all I can say is: "better late than never". Apparently, pizza isn't dead in Germany, thank the heavens. In fact, this restaurant makes pizza that is as good as anything that I have eaten in San Francisco or any other city in the USA. This restaurant has renewed my faith in the human race, and, I am no longer suffering from culture shock, either.I'll give you a short low down regarding "Unter Freunden". First, they cut the pizza into square slices; they do the cutting with giant scissors (one for meat (a red one) and a green handled one for vegetarian pizza. Vegetarians don't have to worry about meat juices getting in their pizza, which is pretty common in all pizza restaurants. They have a great variety of meat pizzas and vegetarianâ ones, as well. They use scissors to cut pieces from big square pizzas, the preparation area looks like a giant checker board made of pizza. They weigh the pizza before you buy, this allows you to order a variety of different pizza slices, talk about choice! And, that's exactly what most people do, unless they stick with their favorites. All their pizza is backed really well, it's got wonderful airy texture. My criticism, is the unusual seating arrangement, many of the tables are small, as if they were made for children. The mismatching seats and tables look like they were all bought in flea market. I suppose, they are going for a "student's apartment" ambiance, it might even be appropriate here in Heidelberg, which is a famous German University town. But, if you are a tall person, it can be a little disconcerting, when all the "grown-up" tables are occupied.Nevertheless, I give this place five stars, and will probably eat there tomorrow. I don't eat pizza anywhere else in Heidelberg.

We visited September 2nd 2018. It was our first time in Heidelberg and we really enjoyed the city. We only were in town for one night so my wife finds this restaurant through google and of course TripAdvisor . Great reviews and after visiting and dining here I can see why. Really good Italian cuisine we being American our German wasnât good let alone Italian yet the hostess was able to understand us plus you canât go wrong with just pointing to items on the menu which was partly in english. I was feeling open and a little greedy so I opted for two meals though one was more so a starter the meatballs in lemon sauce which was like a soup. Never had it before but it was good wife said it was an acquired taste I beg to differ. We both love pizza so I had the don pepe and she had the salami pizza. Price was cheap compared to other places Iâve been ended up spending under 30â¬?! We will be back again the young lady(hostess) was very nice. We came on a Sunday it wasnât as busy but as we were leaving it started to be so maybe come early we sat inside. The atmosphere was friendly and inviting attire was comfortable though the setting could be casual with a bit of formality. Overall wonderful restaurant and compliments to the chef and staff weâll return.

Classical Italian cuisine in the middle of Germany. The locals go for pizza. The visitors go for the real thing. Superb service run by the Italian owner himself, ensure that the kitchen and the service are run properly. Very fresh ingredients ( eg: fish trucked from Genoa, just arrived ), and attention to execute the classical recipes, deliver very good classical Italian meals. The wine list is simple ( it could be improved ), but it has very good value wines. A place to come back.

Set in the Heidelberg Old Town , right on Heidelberger marketplace , we welcome our guests with views of the historic Heiliggeist Church. PAPI offers you the best of Italian cuisine. Not just pizza and pasta , but also meat and fish dishes can be cooked.
They did their best to replace the Italian pizzaiolo who was on vacation. But they failed miserably. They served two times (!) a pizza which was not properly baked (dough was completely raw). The fist time they even tried to explain it by saying: "this is the way they make it in Napoli". When other customers started returning their pizzas, they closed the ovens. This can happen, but they didn't tell us nothing and they left us waiting for nearly 45 minutes. To make things worse, they tried to charge us for the pizzas we didn't eat. So I think they deserve one star.
