Asmara (Tigrinya: ኣስመራ) known locally as Asmera (meaning "They [feminine plural] made them unite" in Tigrinya), is the capital city and largest settlement in Eritrea. Home to a population of just over 800,000 inhabitants, it sits at an elevation of 2,325 metres (7,628 ft), the sixth highest capital in the world by altitude. This restaurant was recommend to me by an Italian expat before landing, and by the Hotel Reception at Albergo Italia. The restaurant is pretty large, has a terrace and indoor seating (in a very nicely decorated room). Menu is comprehensive, with Italian food (Pasta, Lasagna, Pizza), European (Meat, Fish) and Eritrean speicalties..I was very please with my lunch, and decided to return for dinner, as nothing else seemed decent in the area. Prices are approx 200 Nafka for an Eritrean dish.
as a former Italian colony, the pizza is rather disappointing, but since the electricity is off more than on, the gas ovens are churning out round things with stuff on it and serve Coca Cola. That's Napoli, Asmara, and if you dare to try pizza at other places, like the Italian Hotel OMG, Napoli is def-nitt-lee da BEST.
