We were parked on a side street in a neighborhood and a very friendly local recommended this place when we asked about good Mexican. He was right.Excellent margaritas, the blood orange margarita was especially good. The service, Juan was our waiter, was fantastic. He actually gave helpful recommendations (not the usual B.S., âEverything is good" and damn he was right every time. The stuffed pepper appetizer was great.I had a three piece combo. The green chile enchilada was very good but I felt like the pork needed to cook with the sauce just a bit longer. Juan mentioned the Chile Relleno was not his favorite and he was correct - good but not wow. The beef burrito was very good and even more so after I ordered a side of of guac and sour cream. Oddly, the beans and rice were not stand outs. Wifeâs artichoke and mushroom Enchilada was OK.The Sopapillas were excellent and generous amount. Maybe could have used a touch more cinnamon.Atmosphere was comfortable and felt like a local place, not a tourist trap.Weâll stop in again next time we are in the neighborhood.

We were recommended this place by our airbnb host. Wow, superb Mexican food. We took away however you can eat in. Super friendly staff and the burritos were amazing, the house with shrimp was delicious and my husband had the blackened chicken which was also delicious. Can't wait to try more

I was with a friend on a casual visit to Monterey. We ate lunch here. Now, it was perfect for what we were looking for...good food, good price, casual atmosphere. We couldn't finish our food, the portions were big. Now, I would have been disappointed in the ambiance, had I come here for dinner with my husband. This restaurant was coming up as #2 in Monterey for Mexican food. Again, for our purposes, it worked out just fine and I would eat there again but if you are looking for ambiance...I wouldn't rank this high in there regard. Nice people though!

We stumbled upon Mando's by accident and were glad we did! Growing up in Texas and living in Colorado for many years, we are used to excellent Mexican food. This wonderful and inviting little restaurant both measured up and surpassed. My daughter had cheese enchiladas and a tamale with rice and beans. Yum! There was nothing left on her plate, which is unusual. I had the posole, which I have a hard time finding on menus. It was mouth-watering. The meat was tender and the broth was tasty. Served to perfection. The service was friendly and speedy and the prices were incredibly reasonable, especially for the area. The icing on the cake for me were all the notices regarding the community service the owner is involved in. He is deeply involved in local community service as well as international service when tragedy strikes. Everything combined made for a good meal and good will. I will come back here to eat the next time we come out to visit.
