Fine Mexican Food
Pretty nice place for a pit stop on the way back home from Houston to Austin. Food was pretty good and the price did not break the bank. Most of the customers appeared to be locals. That's a good sign. If it's good for them, it's good for us too.
We were headed to Round Top for a day of antique shopping and decided to have breakfast on the way. We found Elvira's in Giddings from reviews and wanted to give it a try. It is located just north of downtown and has a lot of off street parking. When we drove up we were slightly put off by the nondescript look of the outside. It does not look like much but a plain building. Once inside we found that the restaurant was very clean, light and welcoming. The staff greeted us, showed us to our seats and took our drink orders. My wife ordered an omelet and I ordered Migas. The server suggested that I make them Migas a la Mexican, which I did. My wife thought the omelet was excellent and I thought the Migas were among the BEST I have ever had. I am a beginning Spanish speaker and the owner even gave me several suggestions and several new vocabulary words. Gracias. The whole experience was wonderful.
Located just west of the train tracks in Giddings. A wonderful family run food truck serving fresh fast tacos. Stopped on the way from Austin to Houston on a Sunday morning. I had an egg and bacon breakfast taco and the Carne Guisada bowl very tasty and large portions. My wife had the street tacos. One chicken and one beef was delicious as served. Definitely a worthwhile stop for quick and tasty food.

The parking lot was EMPTY. The restaurant was EMPTY. The kitchen looked EMPTY. WEIRD. There was ONE employee with her back to us at a sink WAY in the back. She finally turned around to look at us and went back to whatever she was doing. No greeting, no calling to another team member that there were customers. Huh? Eventually a guy came from the hallway (bathroom maybe and went in the kitchen. And FINALLY, a woman came out with a cash drawer and greeted us. Wow. We stood looking at the menu boards and made our selections only to be told that breakfast (which was on the boards) was over 25 minutes ago. Okaaaaaay, So the guy from the bathroom walks over and hand turns all of the boards to the day food. Son, where've you been the last 20 minutes and why wasn't that done at 11? We made new selections, ordered and sat down. Table was dirty. We moved. Lamp above us was dirty. Ew. The woman was nice and came out and cleaned and was hustling. The young people? I think I'd fire them. Where's the work ethic any more? Service? Communication? Givearip? Not here....
