Food - the starter of tomato and mozzarella salad arrived with no fresh tomatoes - sun dried tomatoes (too intense and no real reason for that) and pretty crudely chopped. Could have done much better at home without even thinking about it. Main of prawns was good. For clients who order the pappardelle then a half wheel of Parmesan is wheeled out (table next to us ordered) and the pappardelle is mixed in the cheese wheel with flaming Italian brandy to finish the sauce - if you like that i guess it is ok but a bit 1970âs theatre for me and worse when the waiting staff were so over zealous in mixing the sauce and pasta in the cheese wheel that the sauce went flying on to a silk blouse of the customer who ordered the dish. When it came to paying, it took three attempts to get the right bill. Some of the food was ok but pretty standard Italian restaurant faire, not really memorable as there are lots of great and better Italian restaurants around.

In 1940, the Dutch Cabinet would have appreciated the Jutter. They travelled to the neighbouring fort and had a meeting about where to go next â England or Zeeland? Personally I think it was a rigged meeting. Nobody travels to Hook of Holland and then decides Zeeland is the place to be. When you are sitting in the Jutter you will see the reason why. The âNieuwe Waterwegâ (New Waterway, the final stretch of the Rhine-Maas river entering the sea) is a formidable obstacle, physically and psychologically. The oil refineries and container terminals on the other side of the river are pretty to view, but they seem a world away. Hook of Holland attracts dreamers and romantics, as well as people who have travelled there for a reason. Movie makers on a photo shoot, grandparents with their grandchildren, on a typical day they can all on be found in Hook of Holland. I generally reach the Jutter by cycling 20km against the wind. My first order is a sparkling glass of jus d âorange. I follow that with an âuitsmijterâ (a fried egg and ham) or a âpannekoekâ (large, thin pancake). Travelling whets the appetite and the Jutter has the answers. Try the Picanha. Not only does the Jutter have good food, it also has an excellent field of view. This is just as you would expect if you are next to the historic fort that was once responsible for protecting the whole area.
Needed somewhere pleasant, my daughters are big fans of Italian food generally. Nice interior , clean, menu fairly standard fare. We had standard meals lasagne, Bolognaise, cabanarra all were fine but not anything special, so food was average in nice interior , lovely waitress. Prices were E12.50 ish per main, good bar selection handy for ferry , free street parking nearby.

A large party of Aussies and locals, we dined here because we wanted a "special night" with our extended Dutch family. We were not disappointed. Really great Italian food, great ambient and service, and a very ni e aelection of wines. Everyone agreed that it was a top class evening. Definitely recommended for a quality evening.
