âLemonokiposâ (Greek word for lemon-tree garden) is a modern Greek restaurant, located in the heart of Rethymno City. The restaurant overlooks on the central Mikrasiaton Square of the picturesque old town of Rethymno and sits next to Mosque "Neratzes" and
Do come here for really tasty Cretan food, good wine, nice staff and the interesting decor where you sit outside under a tree "roof" where you have lemons, pomegranates and some grapes hanging over your table. Very nice staff makes you feel welcome. Do focus on traditional Cretan dishes (ask for recommendations). Also one of my favourites is the Garden Salad. Or lamb cooked under vine leaves if they have it.House wine is good.

Traditonal Taverna with local food only.Homemade cheese and homemade bread as well as meat from our farm...Enjoy the best view and wonderfull sunsets of the island...
We ate at Taverna Fantastiko last night. An apt name for this enchantingly remote taverna perched on an aerie way above Réthymno and its surrounding towns with a commanding view of the Sea of Crete. It was an exciting drive through the ancient villages surrounding the Taverna and then up, up and up again to the awe-inspiring location at the tippy top of an extremely tall hill or short mountain! The view had us mesmerized when we arrived and, fortunately, we had made a reservation, so we had a perfect two-top table at the wall overlooking all the magic and never-ending vistas which reached all the way to the Akrotyri Peninsula in Chania! The couple that rode on our rear bumper up most of the hill tried to race us inside on arrival for that choice table but was relegated another, less strategically located one because they had no reservation. They were quite disappointed to see the RESERVED sign on ours! The host was sweet and we reviewed the menu, ordered the house wine and our dinners: for apps the Chef's Cheese Plate (superb, Graviera, Xinomyzithra and a spicy cream cheese served on tomatoes and cucumbers); and the fried eggplants with luscious tomato sauce and grated cheese. For mains we ordered the Roast Lamb in its own juices and Spicy Pork. Each course was absolutely delicious, most especially the fried eggplant and sauce covered with grated Graviera. We loved the lamb and pork dishes, they were wonderfully prepared and digging among the succulent bones for the "sweet meat" was itself a rewarding and toothsome adventure. This dinner was truly a dining experience which, so far, has not been exceeded. The view, the food and hospitality were all in fine balance this evening. Everyone was snapping away to capture the last of the Cretan sun as it slipped below the clouds on the distant horizon. It is a trek up (and down) the hilltop where this taverna is located but well worth the journey. Take it easy going down the hill and through the tiny villages with their serpentine and narrow streets. Be especially careful if you have had a few carafes of the red house wine, those curves come faster and more furious when you imbibe before descending, careening through minuscule village byways and roads. It is an experience not soon forgotten, all of it! I highly recommend dining at this amazing taverna, it is an overall experience of location, hospitality, cuisine and many memories were made this night! Make a reservation for a great table!

We are located in a venetian local mountain village just few kilometres from the coast by the town Rethymnon. At our farmhouse veranda you can enjoy a beautiful nature and sea view and also enjoy a drink or one of our local dishes.
I had travelled to Maroulas on the 7.00am bus from Rethymno, intending to eat and drink at another establishment, however, in spite of their advertising open from 10.00am daily, I arrived to a locked gate... disappointing. Walked back to the village and eventually into Taverna Katerina saying I was hungry. Asked what would I like? Said I'd be very happy with a Greek Salad, French fries and a beer... no problem. Delicious salad with tomato, cucumber, lettuce, red onion, olives, walnuts, pomegranate seeds, cheese and croutons. Very friendly people, awesome view, highly recommended!
